I've had my Boss SD-1 OD for aeons but i've been using it sparingly. It does sound a bit harsh and thins out my tone, but i love my guitar's level of responsiveness when i run it through the SD-1.

Anyways, I contacted the guys in bredhead.com and asked them if they can "beef" it up for me (i actually really want a Fulltone OCD), but then i saw this on Chrisguitars:

"Boss SD-1 w/"Brown" Mod, called the "SD-808", it changes the somewhat harsh SD-1 to a more vintage sound, basically a TS-808 clone."

    And here's the schematic:

What do you guys think.....yay or nay.

Would the experiment be worth the trouble? Perhaps it would be, coz the SD-1 isn't worth sh1t these days anyways...

Trouble? It's 5 components man. Do it! I'd do it tbh.

Well, that is encouraging, but you have no idea how talented i am when it comes to fuking things up. :p
I'd like to give it a shot though.

DO it...whats the worst that could happen???

you might have to get a keeley tubescreamer thats the absolute worst that can happen :p

If you're doing it yourself just be really careful with the soldering and unsoldering. It's surprisingly easy to damage the trace on the PCB. Ditto for any capacitors you're soldering.

I just ordered my TS9 mod kit from here

    http://www.crossbreedguitars.com/

I love the TS9. Really makes the Recto sing. I'll let ya's know who I get on with the mod...

Cheers Eoin, i might pick up an empty PCB for a couple of test runs first....it's the detail and "cramped-ness" of the small Boss PCBs that worries me, and my hands are more suited to driving a tractor than doing fine precision work :p

dabhoys, that looks pretty good man - but it doesnt say much about the guy/company. UK based, i imagine?

Ancient1, I'll probably be in Dublin fairly soon or you can drop the pedal and components to me and I'll sort it out for you if you'd like.

Just got my mod kit for the TS-9. I'll post some samples of the difference when I get the mod done. See if it really will make much difference...

So what was included in the kit, dabhoys?

The Ibanez TS9 Modification Kit comes with:

    JRC4558D Chip
IC Socket, (so you can just clip in and out different chips)
    three box metal film capacitors
    two tantalum capacitors
    two metal film capacitors
    two resistors
    solder
    de-soldering braid
    32 page instruction manual

It's a very easy kit to understand. If this goes well I'll probaly get the DS-1 mod kit too. There is a few mods in this kit. The main 3 are replacing the chip and two capacitors for what they call the brown mod. Then there is a few more mods to do. To enhnace the pedal more. But I'll probaly just do the chip swap and the two brown mods...

Nice, that's pretty good value man....and definitely handier than having to hunt down all the components individualy.
