Broadband & Firefox Browser Problem

From time to time my Browsers (Firefox and IE) wont open any webpages, even though programs such as trillian still work fine.

I can see the page loading (Looking up google.ie etc) but it times out. I usually end up rebooting and then it works fine.

Is there any way of changing this without having to reboot?
    Cheers!

need a bit more info but have ya tried emptying your cache? a full cache would slow down browsing but not affect IM's...

Its BT.. Im not sure if its a cache problem, Im thinking more along the lines of DNS because it just says "looking up ...webpage...". It cant seem to find any of the sites, thats before starting to load them.

    Reboot and all is well..weirdness.

You could try using the Eircom DNS servers. Just set them in your connection properties.

    Primary - 159.134.237.6
    Secondary - 159.134.248.17

I remember I read somewhere ages ago they would still work even though you're not on Eircom. Give them a shot.

Tools>Options>Select Privacy (when new window opens)>set 'History' and 'Cache' values to '0'(zero).

Make sure you have the latest update Firefox 1.7 (Not the 1.5 public beta - as it says it's a beta and intended for testing purposes even though it's a 'Public Beta).
Firefox 1.6 has DNS problems due to a recent flaw found. It's also possible that you could be 'Over loading' Firefox by trying to load to many windows at the same time. Closing and re-opening generally solves the problem. In some cases though rebooting is needed - thats cause Firefox can hog memory sometimes (Same Issue 'Over loading the browser') and rebooting clears the cache.

You can get 'guest support' Here, Which is a 'Private Project' supporting Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird.
