i think we are just gonna have to post a sticky saying dont buy from ireland......Zoom are alright. Not top class effects but fine

had a zoom pedal once, got it in the states. maybe they've improved over the years, but i dont like them. Digitech have a couple of good multi effect pedals, but I tend to buy all my effects seperate

Not a fan of the zoom stuff. They have a lovely habit of humming and dying mid way through a gig. It is worth it to spend that little extra and get the better pedal.

tbh i loved some of the sounds i got from the zoom 707 and that pedal is only €2 cheaper on thomann.. i say get it man have u used effects much before...if not something like this a grand place to start

No, I was just going to get one for a bit of versatility, personally I'm very happy with just plain overdrive, i'd just like to make a more interesting sound once in a while.
    Thanks for the advice guys

i still use my 707 in my room with headphones. its grand for a bit of delay or chorus or whatever, not high quality but you get the idea

tbh i think its fine if your are only using it to enhance your sound rather than define it

If you could spend a little bit more money, I think this would do you well.

Is there much difference between the Pod and the v-amp apart from the price?

You would need some pretty nifty shoes and a lot of dexterity to use the POD as a pedal :)

My work colleague The Great Baldini got a G2 on monday - early reports sound good...he knows his gear so I'll get him to post up a review when he's back in the office next week.

the only thing i dont like about the pod is that it couloursa your tone no matter what you do (ie, it cant be used in an effects loop as it changes your tone)

In case you weren't aware, and nobody else has mentoned it either, there's now a new updated version of the G2 with an inbuilt pedal. And Lord, I need to lie down in a darkened room, for a long long time! It's cheaper in Waltons than it is in Thomann or Music Store!

I think. To be honest, I thought it was a bit ridiculous having this unit without a pedal from the start. It also comes with a limited edition of Cubase.

Here's my 2c worth. First off, I'm reviewing this as compared to other amp modellers I've used in the past. (Zoom 9002, Pod 2, Korg A4)

The G2 is amazing value for money. I use it as a home practice tool plugged into my PC - the PC cound card acts as a mixer so you hear the G2 with the music - The first zoom effect unit that came out in '89 (the 9002) had a CD line-in that was very useful for this purpose. Not having this feature could have been a detractor, but its fine in my set-up.

The on board drum machine is a very useful feature for practicing. You have enough options there to meet your basic needs. For some reason, the reverb alorithm is defeated when the drum m/c is on. The drum sounds sound fine to me for what they are.

I'm told that it works a dream as a modeller in front of a real guitar amp. I haven't tried that out yet....

The POD 2's "British Hi-Gain" setting model was an excellent Marshall model. I couldn't tell the difference between it running through the FX return of a JCM2000 DSL head and the amp itself with the same settings. The G2 doesn't nail that Marshall hi-gain sound as well to my ears. But you have to bear in mind that (a) the POD is an exceptionally accurate Marshal modeller (IMO), (b) it costs a lot more and (c) has MIDI-capability. The on-board FX are far superior to the POD 2's. I have no experience with the XT - maybe they improved the DSP since POD 2.

There are some very nice tones in the G2 presets - very usable for home recording. The G2 inspires you to play so that has to be worth the money alone.

The bottom line: In my opinion, the G2 is excellent value for money. If I could compare to POD 2, that machine's strong point was the amp models and MIDI capability. The G2 has adequate amp models, but the other FX are much better. They improved the FX significantly since the 9002. They kept the Brian May "sample & hold" stepped effect. I would have liked if they kept the talk-box effect.

It sounds less like a ZOOM than previous ZOOMs (the other ZOOM gear I'd come across seemed to color the sound).
