    hey all,

I'm trying to think of a new shot to try out. If anyone has any recommendations on any shots they have had that would be appreciated.

Or just list your favourite shots.

Have to say I'm not much of a shots man anymore. If it's not beer or wine then I'm generally to be found with a glass of whiskey. I never consider it a shot because it's a sin to just neck it back.

Anyways - I haven't had it for many years but I have fond memories of Goldschlagger (sp?). One snowy night in Worcester, MA me and some friends had great fun watching bands and passing a bottle amongst us. It really warms the insides.

B52 - overdosed on them one night but if you haven't overdosed, they're good.
Tia Maria, Baileys and then carefully pour Cointreau or Gran Mariner on top.
For something a bit softer, leave out the Cointreau and you have Baby Guinness.

If you're just looking for something straight up though, I recommend Sambuka (Ainseed-based), Jagermeister (German little green faries drink) or if you're at it heavy, Rajkia if you can find it - much nicer than Vodka.

I like good vodka in the freezer and into a frozen glass, the freezing cold kills a lot of the alcohol taste and the vodka slips down really nicely. If you want a night of hangover free drinking, have a shot then a ballygowan and altrenate all night, the water serves the dual purpose of rehydrating and pacing the vodka.

sambuca used to be my thing until i was out one night and it cost €2 a drink, drank way too much, suffered greatly!! cant even stand the smell of sambuca now. though i was also drinking bacardi that night and I have recently rediscovered it so never say never!!

Edited by Minesajackdaniels because Dundalk Cailin hasn't realised her Qwerty keyboard has 26 letters to choose from, and if I catch her spelling "night" as "nyt" again on this forum, the smell of Sambuca will be the least of her worries.

Jagermeister is nice as is most of the schnapps they have here. My favourite at the moment is Milk Schnapps!

I really hate most of the common shots in Ireland. Sambuca, Tequila, Aftershock etc all give me a horrible feelng that I want to heave every time I drink them. In saying that I haven't touched any of them for a few years now.

Schnapps is the german term for spirits, just so you all know.
Vodka and teqila are schnapps just as much as goldjaeger or jaegermeister are in common parlance.

Ok then if you want to be pedantic I refer to the mostly clear spirits that have 'Schnapps' in their names eg Marillen Schnapps, Birnen Schnapps, Nußschnapps etc..

Being a German speaker I was not really being pedantic, merely trying to clear up a common misconception. My experience is that a lot of people misuse the term thinking it only refers to the "obstlers" (white spirit that fruit and sugar are allowed to steep in to impart flavour) that are commonly called schapps in non-german speaking countries. Most germans make their own obstlers at home.

    Could be here all day.

A short, incomplete list, in no particular order.

    Single Malt Whisky
    Single Malt Whiskey
    Black Sambuca
    (Swiss) absinthe
    Calvados
    Green Chartreuse
    Yellow chartreuse
    (Spanish) Solera Brandy
    Benedictine
    Countreau
    Sauerapfel

    That'll do for now...

    <edit>
    How could I forget Goldschlager!

The only shots I tend to go for are Sambucha,Goldslager and vodka.
I fypu want me to tell you a 'new' shot, tell us the ones that you drink.

Was recently introduced to Goldschlager. Currently my shot of choice.
Never realised there was a special way to drink a shot but it works with this one.....

On another note never, ever want to drink blue aftershock again! The day after my birthday this year was spent talking to god on the big white telephone until 4 pm the following day!!!!

    Hot Shot

Fill a shot glass 1/3 with Galliano (a sweet, yellow Italian herbal liqueur).
Put a layer of hot black coffee on top of the Galliano using a spoon.
The coffee will sit on top if done correctly- it will be yellow then a dark coffee layer on top.
Add a little whipped cream on top of the coffee......slam it down!

    Looks like this

    My fav shots would be:

    Baby Guinness
    Apple Sourz

And I'm also partial to a shot of Jack Daniels!

    What about a Tri colour
Brandy, Bailey and creme de mont. Pour proper measures properly and it looks the biz!! Will mess you up though

My friend has a shot called strock or strom or something like that, its about 70% and just crazy!! And on that note Absinth!!
    Tequila and redbull aswell

Apparently this doesn't work anymore as the ingredients in Baileys have changed and it won't stay seperate from the other drinks.

    This is it http://www.stroh.co.uk/
Lethal stuff but nice in moderation

stroh is very harsh. I had the 80% stuff before.
    cointreau is great.
Real schnapps has no sugar added. Real peach schnapps is when you ferment peach juice and distill it usually in a double boiler of water, so it only gets a very gentle heating so the flavours stay intact.
