We all know how much people complain about Microsoft bundling IE and Media Player with Windows in order to increase their market share.

But what do I find Apple doing now? Bundling iTunes with Quicktime 7! You can't download it without having iTunes with it.

    I don't want/need iTunes, jsut Quicktime.

    Is Jobs the next Gates???

If you want the free version, you'll have to take itunes as well, the incentive to purchase QT Pro(worth it imo)

Does it have to be quicktime 7?

They are bundling it due to the new itunes and its movie capabilities

Try K-Lite mega codec pack, it's free and it installs all of Quicktime, Real and WMPs codecs and a neat little player without any of the bloatware that is Quicktime, Real etc.

    It is what it's.

Well I'd like to try QT7 to see what HD vids look like.

Not sure if KL codec pack supports this just yet.

for all that Microsoft does wrong, the world of computing is a much better place for not letting Apple have the monopoly.

The only difference is Microsoft was in a dominant position in the OS market and were using it to leverage the media player market.

I'm not sure if Apple are dominant with Quicktime (although they might be dominant in the area of software that allows you buy songs online), and appear to be using it as an integral part of iTunes. (I might be wrong here?)

But nonetheless, Apple are just as evil as Microsoft, maybe even more so. Jobs' duty is to make money for the shareholders, not bestow great things upon the world. Although at the moment he seems to be able to make both paths intersect :)

Interesting that when you run the 'QuickTime updater' it informs you there are no newer updates available, despite the fact that I have version 6.5.

Thanks for the standalone install The_Edge

Windows without the media player is just hassle (For basic home users)!

If you think about it how many times have you done a fresh install and used media player to play some music or small video clips untill you can get your hands on Winamp or something equivilant!

Dont get me wrong personally i think Windows Media Player sucks.
But you hav to look at it from a regular home users point of view they dont think there is anything better than Windows out there.

Basically since Windows have brought out xp without media player it hasnt sold!
Because people think there missing out on something.

The reason is becasue MOST home users want everything in a nice package as soon as they install it, they dont want to have to go looking and downloading media players.

The reason apple is bundling itunes with quicktime is because they want a bigger chunk of the market and MORE MONEY!
They want a way for people to experience there product and hopefully adapt and intergrate it instead of the competitions. Its just business.

As always the above is just my opinion, anybody out there who has been offeneded, learn to relax!

    PEACE!!!

MS also have a large number of shares in Apple. Because the last thing you want is the only real competing operating system (at that time) dying on you due to monopolistic practises.

FYI The US Supreme Court has found that Apple's OS is not a competitor to Microsoft.

You have a link to that?

Apples OS is not a competitor to Windows. Apple makes its money from hardware sales first and foremost.

IT may not be now. But curious to read the court findings on it. Never noticed it in the FOF on MS vs DOJ.

    What does FOF mean?
On "mature reflection", I must admit it was not a court finding that Apple OS was not a competitor to Windows. In fact, David Boies and the DOJ contrived their original complaint about Microsoft to refer only to "Intel-based PCs".

It is most likely that in any competition proceedings OS X would be found not to be a competitor to Windows. For 90% of the population of computer users, it is not, without a significant investment in hardware and software.

If there was a x86 build, it would be an entirely different matter.

I doubt if anything was contrived, it was just a realisation of facts.

Please explain how bundling iTunes with Quicktime is abusing a monopoly - it's not preinstalled on 90% of the worlds computers. Yeah it's a pain but not much you can do about.

As for the number of shares in Apple - M$ lent apple €150m a while back, share price doubled and €450 million shares traded on that day.
