Ntl Broadband self install?

Just moved from one house in Galway to another. Just wondering is it possible for me to self install the Ntl Cable Braodband? I rang Ntl up and they transfered me ntl account over to this new house so I took my digital boxes, They all work fine. I wanted to get broadband with them as I am not bothering with transfering eircom phone line (Have to change number as its not on same exchange). They told me it was over 2 weeks until they could fit it.

Now the thing is the previous tennants had Broadband with Ntl there before me and the cable modem is still plugged into the ntl socket. I have attached my laptop to the modem via ethernet but not getting any response. on the send and recieve led's. If I ring Ntl up can they just switch it on again or is it more complicated than that? (I do have an ntl email address account from ntl world dial up)

Most likely they just cancelled access from the MAC address of the cable modem. Subscribing simply entails them enabling it again.

I'll give them a ring then see if they can turn it on?

Just rang them, They said they have to come out and fit new equipment that the cable modem that the previous tennants have will not work on my account? Great no broadband for over 2 weeks.

That's crap. There is no technical reason it won't. Do you have the modem there? have you tried it?

Not really. They do the same with Digital boxes. Seem to be 'married' to the account and even when shut down have to be electronically 'wiped' and issued again. Suppose it's for some kind of extra security?

Yeah I have tried the modem, It doesn't have any activity on the send and recieve when connected to a laptop via ethernet. Very frustrating. I may have a phone number for an engineer at home who installs ntl. He may help me out for a few quid.

That's surprising. Good security (for NTL) I suppose.
