the week starts on Monday morning....going to work, depressed that you are at the furthest possible point to the weekend.

Sunday is the last day of the week, where you do nothing, rest, recover from the weeks exploits, and prepare for a new week, and do it all over again.

[edit] Didn't god create the world in 6 days...and then rest on the last day? the day of sabbeth? Sunday is the day of a sabbeth? so dosen't that make it the last day of the week?[/edit]

Sunday being the first day the week is an American thing.

It's just any people I've ever met who insisted on Sunday being the first day of the week were pretty religious.

But you're right... in the US and Canada Sunday is seen as the first day of the week which is the more traditional view derived from the ancient Jews, Egyptians and the Holy Roman Empire.

Yes.. why would someone who is omnipotent need to have a bit of a rest anyway? Golf makes a lot more sense.

    It's Sunday if you're religious.

i think god rested on sunday after a hard weeks work, making monday the first day of the week.

personally, i use sunday as the start of the week, for no other reason than i am a strange fellow...

i suppose it is Monday, but if your religious it's definitely Sunday..
god created the earth in 6 days on the 7 day he rested (and life began, life didn't begin til he finished creating on the 6th day!!)

I was taught at school (in the UK) that Sunday is the first day of the week and most people I knew there thought this but since I moved to Ireland I've been told by more people that it's definitely Monday.

The calendar on the wall in my office starts the week on Sunday, but the calendar in my phone starts it on Monday.

I think it should be Monday as Sunday is classified as part of the weekend, surely?

Monday for me. The concept of Sunday being the start of the week is rooted in Religion (God having his day of rest on Sunday etc.), so, as I'm not religious, it's got to be Monday for me.

I was always taught it was Sunday, as Sabbath/Saturday was the day of rest.
Then again, I was always taught that summer began on the 1st of May.

The week starts on Friday evening and ends on Sunday night - everything in between is a punishment.

The whole bloody calander is based on religion!!
Sunday is not the day he rested as it is old testiment stuff. God rested on Saturday!! Sunday is the end of the week based on the Christian religion of Palm Sunday. So those who say Sunday is the end of the week are basing it on religion!!!
In the western world people consider Monday the start of the working week and hence call Monday the first day of the week but it still remains Sunday.
For all intense purposes Monday is the first day of the week in everyday life but technically it is Sunday.

Yeah but all the day names are named after planetary bodies, Roman gods and whatnot.

And if the Romans had known there were 9 planets we'd have 9 days in a week.
Would that mean three or four day weekends, I wonder? :)

oh yes.. and now we'd have an extra day called Xenaday... sounds like fun..

actually I remember reading once about a proposal to decimalise time and it seemed to make a lot of sense... it would involve having 10 day weeks.
