Borderline call at the buy it now price...

If you can get it for less than £325 then yeah, do it, but if you can't, I dunno...

The Holy Grails are good pickups but not very high-output. What are you looking for? They'll do the job nicely in terms of that retro vibe, but don't expect them to sound anything like SD HotRails!

A second hand Mexi for €500 ish? I'd just order a Lite Ash from Thomann and wait tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

i'd say get a lite ash strat neo...trust me its worth the wait...the black lite ash strat is available on thomann but u want the natural finish do u????

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

The more I look at the black one, the more I think it'd look savage with white pickup covers and knobs.

and the more u say that the more i agree with u...its lacking something and maybe thats it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

I dunno If I can wait 2 weeks. Ive got strat fever. I need one now. Im not sure what type of sound im looking for. In need to try out lots of strats. But they are meant to have a variety of sounds. The first thing that comes into my head is that john frusciante type strat sound. I may wait for the lite ash.

tbh the strat is the most versatile guitar i've had...its like a telecaster that can handle distortion.you'll get most sounds from it with the right setup

Dunno about you lads, but I like this

i want that strat with a one point tremolo and locking tuners. Preferably with a humbucker at the bridge aswell.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Actually, screw the white pickups and knobs. White pearloid pickguard is what that needs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

i don't like the chrome hardware it looks cheap on that strat imo...might look great in person though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,110 ✭✭✭sei046

i have a 79 sunburst strat with black pickuarg, pickups and knobs and it looks great. Must set it up right

Replace the saddles with black graphtech saddles though, maybe a black output jack too and silver or black Sperzel locking tuners with different colour buttons (silver on black, black on silver).

What about some blue noens aswell? If you could have them shining out from under the pickguard the would look fookin rapid! Deadly man!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Well, I have always wanted to put lights in the neck...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

i don't like the pearloid tbh but the rest is just smashing to be fair...

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I've always had a thing for pearloid guards on black bodies, ever since I saw the ESP KH-4 :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

I'm not sure why but I get a sick feeling in my stomach when I look at a strat.

Perhaps its because they are so common or something. Kinda like eating too much cake makes you queezy.

For that reason alone I could never own one regrdless of the sound they make.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

I must say lads im now liking that black lite ash. And best of all, its in stock! If I was to do a bit of diy on its ass, where would be the best place to pick up pickguards and knobs and tuners and knobs....did i mention the knobs?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

You could get knobs from Thomann along with pickguards but the real Fender pickguards seem expensive. The Pearloid one is €55 ish :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

yeahn its a few bob..there a reason why strats are everywhere macattack because they are savage...play one and u'll understand

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

FNARR indeed fey FNARR indeed..seriously man there is a rake of lads here who have been converted to strats and won't look back

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Even I've been converted. Although, it'll be a while before I can get a strat. Damn gas for cheap guitars :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

Bloody hell pickguards are expensive  And just for a bit of plastic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

ah yeah we all have it fey..control is the name of the game...or bank loans :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

Bank loans are great arent they JCoote. Have now...pay later..... Me likes. Ive got a loan out which is supposed to be for college fees. Its not supposed to be for guitars. But you can always save up later cant you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

i love loans (a bit too much actually) but yeah its the only way to go i like to think of it as upfront long term saving...unfortunaly with interest

    /drools

Edit - Neo, don't invest too much in pickguards because they will not always match. You might have to try out 2 or 3 before you find one that fits - unless you want to fill some of the holes and drill new ones.
