[US] iTunes & Lost

Apple announced today that they're releasing a video iPod. Also, they launched iTunes 6 with added video support. Not only that, but you can now download some of "ABC's finest" TV shows for just $1.99 per episode...you guessed it, that includes Lost (and Desperate Housewives and a few others).

Now anyone with a *real* American cousin (or credit card) can download episodes of Lost through iTunes. Only available through the US store though. Plus, the video files are meant to be as DRMed as the music files. And I supose quality mightn't be as HDTV as we're used to...

The info on the show in the following screenshot may have spoilers for those who aren't watching Season 2

the video support is pretty good, but nothing that some players cant already do. its funny the way they are trying to get back in on the action to make money instead of loss....... i wonder how many people will actually go for it that already have cousins in the us.....

It's very cool to see this being done, but I'm a little miffed they've made it US only (to ensure continuation of international distribution). Very frustrating. I'd like to see an international version of this type of thing become available - with the file quality we're used to. $1.99 seems a lot, but I think international audience would definitely pay €1 per episode of something like Lost, and still be so few in number as not to upset European broadcasters. Step in the right direction anyway, something I think will grow. Broadcasters (and more importantly distributors) have seen the rise of torrenting, just like the music industry did (but responded too late) and this is the right and progressive reaction.

For everyone outside America, you can buy gift vouchers for American I Tunes of Ebay. And once you verify the code theres no need for a credit card, so Lost for all!
