Ace Rag in the Big Blind

This hand came up in an STT, and while it wasn't really a big/influential hand, i've been thinking a lot about it, seen as i have loose starting standards and could easily find myself in this situation more often.

I'm in the Big Blind, with A3 off. 4 limpers.

Flop comes Ace-x-x, with 2 to a flush. I throw out a probe bet of probably 3/4 the pot. Its folded around to late positon(SB also folds), who calls.

Turn is a blank. At this point, whats my play? The dilemma is that if he has the ace, i'm almost definitely out kickered and am only hoping to hit 2 pair on the river, and so would be pretty much throwing my money away with a raise. However, if i check, and he's drawing to the flush, then i'm giving him a free card. Opinions?

I'd double your initial bet, depending on the size of your and his stacks, and it would also depend to an extent on what the two X's are. If they are pretty much rags I'd be representing the fact that I've hit two pair out of the junk I held on the BB and I don't want the flush to complete. If he reraises you, then fold, but this leaves you in an awkward position if he flat calls. Checking now gives him the initiative and you're in an even worse position, especially if the flush draw completes.

The x's shouldn't matter, as if the player in question is reasonably tight, representing 2 pair is pointless, seen as he's not going to fold his Ace/good kicker if he's hit his ace, especially not at the stakes i'm playing (the 5+1 and 10+1 on party)

(for the record, the x's are J and 5 of hearts, meaning that if he's tight then he could easily also have made top 2 pair)

Doubling the bet is also a moot point, seen as I face the same problem that i faced on the turn, in that i'm still throwing money away on a hand in which i'm pretty much drawing dead.
