Any companies buy servers?

    Hi,

I'm working for a small company that invested heavily in an IT project that went titsup this week, at a 7-figure cost, and we're trying to recover as much of that as possible. We bought a 7-blade (11 CPUs in total) two-rack Dell server with rakes of disks, independent UPS etc, which though a year old, should still be worth a few quid.
At the time we bought it, we got a number of offers from companies offering to buy it from, and lease it back to us.

We may soon have a need to sell this, does anyone out there know of companies that would buy this (unused) server from us?
Anyone got a large 5 figure sum of cash lying around they want to splash on the ultimate SETI@home server :-> ?

    Update: Spec

    7 1U-high servers:

    PowerEdge 1750 Xeon 3.06 Ghz (PCI-X slots)
    4 x 1Gb ECC DDR
    2 x 36GB ULtra320 (10krpm)
    PERC controller
    Rage XL gfx
    Gigabit Ethernet
    dual redundant PSUs
3 year Silver Premier Enterprise Support
    Windows 2000 (licensed -> 2003) Enterprise Server

1 SCSI enclosure (up to 14 disks)
    10 x 36GB Ultra320 (10krpm)
    dual redundant PSUs

    Dual PV112T tape backup unit

all in two big shiny 24U black racks.

To put it in perspective, one two proc Xeon of similar spec (PE1850) comes in at €7600 from Dell today, and though we're expecting to depreciate a lot off it, we paid over €90k for this hardware, not to mind the Oracle and SQL licenses, and want to recoup as much as possible.

    They're not blade servers though.

They're just 1U rackmounted servers. Blades are sort of computers on a cartridge, as you can see on the dell business server site.

Better for you though as there's a chance of selling them on individually. Best local target would probably be a startup that isn't old enough to qualify for leasing.

Ok, I mistook my terminology, they are indeed 1U servers, and the disk enclosure is 4U.

what was the IT project they were used for?

It's still up in the air, and I still work there so I'd rather not say, but it was Oracle and SQL-based system, which never went live because a software vendor failed to deliver the product. The hardware was never used live, but was on for about 2 months while software was tested on it.
