    Hey all,

I have begun a new job 2 weeks ago and im planning to go to Australia in March for 12 months. I am currently paying tax at 21%, but i was talking to a friend who was in Oz last year and he said i shud be entitled to all my tax back if i havent worked a full year and i wont be working in Ireland for a full year! Is this true? And what happens if i come home early?

He said he got back about €2500! that would be sweet!

    Any advice - Thanks

if you haven't worked this year up until 2 weeks ago, then you have a lot of tax credits built up from the start of the year and probably shouldn't be paying any tax at the moment - did you give your employer your tax-free allowance cert?

you can also claim it back at the end of the year if you have overpaid.

    Yes you're a really smart guy, it's 20% and 42%.

Original poster - you just fill out a form and send your P45 to the tax office and you'll get a cheque or they'll pay it into an Irish bank account. Doesn't take too long..around a month iirc.

Unfortunately I can't remember what the form is called, but if you ring the tax office they'll tell you.

The form is on the revenue website. You need part 2 and 3 of your p45 (i think) and the filled form... pop it in post, few weeks later, cheque! or money into account if ask in form! easy... did it a month r 2 ago
