screen issues with laptop

Hey, I posted about this before but the problem has gotten worse since then.
I have a HP compaq nx9010 and recently the screen started to flicker from time to time, sometimes it even stretches out and has lines all across it, which is pretty annoying. I have an ATI Raedon graphics card (not sure what one) and I don't think they do drivers for laptop cards, so it cant be that. Would it be something else I'm missing? I recently had the machine looked at because I was worried about the fans (there are three on it and only one seems to be operating and the other two never seem to come on), could it be something to do with overheating?

Check with the manufacturer for any updated drivers.
What sort of lines: color/horizontal/vertical? It could be overheating (or numerous other things: dodgy invertor,etc.) - how frequently does it happen? Is the laptop hot or cold (i.e. How long has it been running?)

I have something similar going on with my hp pavilion zd7010. Just yesterday the display started to blink, flicker and jump with vertical lines evident in coloured sections of the screen and pixelation. Kinda worried really. Any suggestions which might cover both these problems????

Currently trying to figure out why my laptop screen has gone completely blank (its a Gateway SOLO 9300 if anyone has any suggestions - my second one to go in 12 months) and spotted possible helpful links for you
