If ever meet Tom Cruise I'm going to knee him in the face (without him needing to bend down) to see if traumatises anyone around him with his screaming.

Ah but with little folk like that, you just put your hand on their head at arms length and watch them punch the air furiously!

Mad religion not like the Catholic one at all. I mean we wouldn't say you can't use a cancer treatment or not allowed use STD protection! Or the ones where you cut a piece of flesh from a child for no reason. Faith is belief in something that doesn't make sense or match up. Not sure if she is doing it just for love of him or a new faith!

If she's really that stupid then she deserves all she gets. I just feel sorry for the poor kid who'll have no choice in the matter.

Scientology  I once got asked to if I'd like a free "personality test" by a guy outside the Scientology place on Abbey St. I just laughed at him. He even wanted my address so they could call round and do the test there.

I walk past that place several times a week, each time hoping and hoping someone will ask me in for a free cup of tea. I think they are armed with Skeptometers.

I've even read up on Scientology to be ready for the occasion!

I think everybody should just shut up about Tom and Kate (as Pighead likes to call her). I've grown quite sick of all the negative views on the relationship. I couldn't give a pig's ass what impact their relationship has on their respective films or on anything else. They are rich. The world is their oyster.
The Tom Cruise backlash that has formed in recent years is dispicable.. I don't see any reason why people hate Tom Cruise so much. Maybe they are just jealous ofhis fame, good looks, and money. And now he is happy and in love. It is easy to hate someone like that when your life seems to be so ordinary or boring right?Lads pipe down! Just because your ugly arses can't get katie holmes don't hate Tom
I think Tom and Katie look great together and they seem genuinely happy. So eat your hearts out!
Tom deserves all the best coz he is the best

Is there any way that they can extend the ban on making any kind of noise to include her acting career? And while they're at it, maybe they could kick her in flaps for being in Dawson's Creek.

Have you perhaps read the article? Tom Cruise has gone insane and has brought everyone around him down. He f*cked over his "other" family aswell.

how do people get pulled into something like scientology?
i read some incredibally weird stuff about what they *really* believe (apparantly) something about alien ghosts in a volcano.

Anyone who knows what their belief system is? From what I've heard it seems to be some kind of 'religion of self'

I have indeed read the article.I've also read articles which suggest Mickey Rourkeis actually an alien and Britney is a CIA agent. However although i read the articles i didn't believe them.
C'mon Giblet surely you're not swallowing this nonsense.Cruise is in the middle of a severe backlash at the moment and people are only too happy to join the bandwagon and spread scurillous rumours.
Its Mel Gibson I feel sorry for,Because when Tom becomes yesterdays news i guarantee you they'll start on him.Run for the hills Mel!

    Yes, but who's the father?

That was not Scientology that was Dianetics which is connected but not the same. It's a bit similar to saying Protestants and Catholics are the same.

There are a lot of very successful people who use religion as a focus to get to there goals. I don't see how Tom Cruise has done anything bad but I can't say the same for the Pope. Some people are just spreading religious hatred compounded by ignorance.

Ok as most people were brought up Christian here answer some simple questions

How old was Mary when she had Jesus? Joesph's age?
What did Canaan do to Noah? Or was it actually Noah at fault?
    Why did Cain kill Able?
    What is the 8th commandment?
    What is the emmaculate conception?
Try it without doing any searches. I am by no means a religious person but that't because I read up.

Scientology is not a "religion" in any genuine sense of the word.

It's "inventor", L. Ron Hubbard, was a failed pulp sci-fi writer convicted of fraud in more than one country. In absentia I might add, as he was indicted for fraud in several other countries and disappeared to avoid conviction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

Yes, I remember Katie saying she was going to wait till she got married! Obviously those rumours of Tom being caught in bed with another man were still floating around... "quick, we'll get ya preggers, they'll soon forget!"

Who are you to say you know what a religion is? A lot of churches have dodgy histories including the Roamn Catholic rewritten new testement where the Romans aren't so bad.
What about the Mormons is that just the ramblings of a poor farmer or a religion?
It is the religious belief of people and as such should be respected. You don't get to justify bigotry because you think it is not true.

I don't believe any religion to be true, but I'll respect the history or at the very least their intentions in any thoughts on their status. Tax exemption does not a religion make.

A cult or an ethos would be a better description.

Do you know anything about Scientology or are you just defending it for the sake of it?

Don't be so ridiculous. Hubbard founded this religion for one reason - money.

From the Xenu website mentioned above in the words of Hubbard himself:

    "Scientology...is not a religion."

    - L. Ron Hubbard, CREATION OF HUMAN ABILITY, 1954, p. 251

So I think it's fair to say that it's not a religion particularly when the founder himself even says so.

I defend religious freedom and try to see what the benifits of are of each. AS an atheist I guess you have faith in science which does take leaps of faith is people like Stephen Hawkins who change their mind!

It is said that some actresses adopted rather than have children naturally because of the effect it has on their bodies and therfore carears. Rumours about Cruise are common just because he is very successful. Some people just dislike people

Out of interest what is the Church of Scientologys stance on
    1) Pre-Marital Sex
    and
    2) Homosexuality

because I'm convinced Tom is guilty of neither.

Although I'm pretty sure if your in extreme pain the baby can feel it too. Baby can certainly feel if the mother is distressed, but this whole silent birth sounds like total BS.

he is pathetic. only the rich hollywodd believe you can buy your way to salvation. I gotta say fair play to the founder of scientology though he really saw these idiots coming. I mean he 'invented' a religion and charges celebs money to be a member so that the spaceship will bring them home (im not kidding people this is what they believe).
I cant tolerate anyone who goes around shoving their religion down everyones neck. Lets just all hope for the day that katie holmes frontal labotomy gets reversed!!

Many Muslim believe it is a way of life not a religion. You even called it a religion. Your bielf in Hubbards intention may make me believe in your ability to read minds. :p You don't know his intentions the same way you don't know what St. Paul's intentions were. Maybe we have reached a point in eveloution where the truth will be revealed. It's all faith but would you fell just as comfortable saying the Kuran was just for money? Or the Mormons? They all deserve religious respect you don't get to choose who is allowed have a belief or get to riddcule them. Unless you want to be like a Nazi or raceist.

They are exactly the same people. Dianetics is just a book they sell. Its a bit similar to saying that Catholics sell a book where Jesus shoots laser beams from his eyes.

You obviously don't know your history. The Roman Catholic church was selling slavation for a long time and it one of the reasons Protest religion was set up. In fact The Protest religion is probably closer to what Irish Catholic people believe.

I believe in freedom to practice religion, including the freedom to practice a particularly wacky, cultish one. But make no mistake -- Scientology is an especially wacky, cultish attempt at religion. Their practise of "Disconnecting"is being one of their worst policies. This isn't religion as most of us know it (and I'm not much of a fan of any religion). It's a particularly paranoid, aggressive, manipulative kind of religion

Hubbard lost the rights to the book and then set up the church. Not connected now but very similar. Not great on all the history but they are different

As far as I'm aware scientologists don't try to push their religion on anybody.

I don't really see what all the fuss was about, it's her choice how she wants to give birth, it may seem stupid but it's harmless and with the best of intentions. It's a lot better than some of the choices other people make.
