What the hell is this guy doing on 2fm in the mornings? Tell me Rick and Ruth are on holidays or something. Its like listening to RTE 1 in the mornings. Rick and Ruth at least entertained you and allways gave a bit of a laugh but Marty just annoys you out of bed. Every morning its the same ****e music like Shania Twain or some country music/retro music.

Im all for retro at certain times like 3 in the afternoon but get this guy off the radio! As of today I have switched radio staions until they get that old fogie off the air. Go to RTE!

Anyway to co-incide with the Ray Darcy thread, does anyone like Marty?

Those two p*ssants were canned from the morning slot for being worse than upwardly mobile - they are the suckiest thing since sucky the suck insect got sucked on a sucky bun. Don't mention their names again.

I listen to them in the car, Fm104 or Q102 is for the car ride, I need something tamer and saner for first thing in the morning.

I used to fancy Marty when I was a sprog.

Why the hate folks? I thought Rick and Ruth had a very gomorning show. Not annoying, decent music (by morning commercial radio standards), good competitions etc.

The reason Marty Whelan has the breakfast slot is because Gerry Ryan complained that people were tuning away after Rick and Ruth, over to Darcy. He reckoned the listenship was too young. I think this is bóllox, and Mr Ryan would want to take a long look at his own piece of crap show and see why people turn it off. Maybe if he took the attention off Dublin, and was more general, like Darcy, people wouldnt switch him off. Plus he has a condesending superior attitude which would make most sane people not want to listen anyways.

As for Marty, he's not that bad. The other two were miles better though.

Rick, Ruth, Marty and Gerry are deserving off all the hate i can muster though i must bow my head in shame and say that i do listen to gerry if i still am on the bus into work. mainly only to hear what arrogant ****e he comes out with, like this morning before i tuned out he was going on about what a great coushty number he has for being paid loads on money to spout boll0x on the radio.

Tuberty is getting as arrogant as well, stopped liking him about 2 years ago. glad he's off having to interview fuddy-duddies.

fm104 is complete pants. its low brow tabloid radio pretending to be from america. same with 98fm.

todayfm and Newstalk106 is what i mainly listen to. though Orla Barry on 106 at 9.am is shocking. As soon as i hear her horrible intro jangle i'm gone.

and just to get back on topic: Marty sucks. he should be banished back to that old fogies glorifed bingo show again but that would mean that that possibly even more dispicable presenter Mooney would be let loose again.

I liked Ryan Tubridy, but wasnt a religious listener (didnt like the music) but things went rapidly downhill into a cesspit of burning sulpher and and crying children, when the car crash duo of Rick 'n' Ruth were given the slot, but I think at least RTE are trying to redeem themselves with Marty Whelan after the mortal sins of the other 2.

Turbridy was snide, pretentious and aloof - just like he was in UCD when I was there. His 'young old fogey / ratpack manque' persona is so tiresome.

As for Rick and Ruth - appalling. A pair of uninformed, conservative, reactionary, unimaginative c*nts.

Ryan Tubridy, Marty Whelan, Daniel O'Donnell, Phil Coulter et al. are all terrible 'entertainers', and I use that word loosely. Only in this country could they be allowed to front a TV show.

Regarding Marty Whelan, he looks like he'd be more comfortable working as a used car salesman in a dodgy dealership.

I think Marty got thrown in because people kicked up when he finished covering for Gerry Ryan in the summer, so RTE in their wisdom gave him his own show.

A bit off topic, but can anyone give me the whole story on why Gareth O'Callaghan was dropped from the schedule????

Tubridy was good when he started on the morning show first, then he started to believe his own hype and turned into an arse, so glad to see him go, same with his TV show (why don't I rip off the Leno/O'Brien format). Rick and Ruth were crap, At least Marty is an improvement. Although I seem to be tuning into Mr Dunphy in the mornings (maybe i'm getting old)

There's no decent music on mainstream radio in the mornings. You might be lucky if you hear one decent song per hour with the rest of the time taken up with inane chatter by Dempsey and co. And Jaysus I can't stand Ruth "I'm a 30+ desperate female from Roscommon who wants a man" Scott. Prefer Marty ****ing Whelan or tedious Tubridy to that. Cannot stand Gerry Ryan either.

Nowadays I just listen to the legendary Dunphy on Newstalk 106. Or else listen to Radio 1 and switch off when Tubridy comes on.
