I'm looking for a basic laptop for my mam. All she will use it for is e-mail, internet and word. Any recommendations? Are dell any use? I heard you can bargain with them if you call up, is it true? What about PC world, are they any use?

dell generally seem to be okay, i've never had problems with dell's (most of my family and relatives use dells and ask me if there's a problem) but there hasn't been any major hassle with them.

on the other hand i'd stay away from pcworld

    1. they haven't a clue what they are talking about. i went in there one day to see if they had any usb pen drives, i asked the assistant and he showed me to memory cards for cameras and when i said they were for cameras he said "they do the same thing".

    2. their after sales service is completely rubbish from my own experience yet again they don't know what they are doing and lead you with false promises.

    3. they are generally more expensive for items that can be sourced more cheaply online.

i don't know if you can bargin with dell, i've heard a few people who have said they did but as that's only word of mouth i can't say whether it was true or not.

Thanks. That sounds bad about PC World's after sales service, think I'll steer clear of them.

Are there any other online retailers I should be looking at?
