I'm buying a new sound card for my PC for recording music. I was thinking about the E-MU 1212.

Any recommendations on what's good or any advice appreciated.

    Cheers.

M-Audio Revolution 7.1. I bought mine from a German shop. I have the link at home, thomann.de I think they were called. Paid about €150 for it almost 2 years ago now.

Edit: Just had a look and found it on thomann.de for €95 plus €23 shipping according to that website.

The new X-Fi looks pretty sweet man, and the audio playback is meant to be immense!

    Cost ya between 150 - 300!

Is it a case of plugging the instrument directly into the soundcard or will I need a pre-amp?

I think it would depend on the card!

But if ya check out the card online and just look for the specs, it should tell ya everything you need to know.

    Here's one for the X - Fi

Check out the audio creation, maybe that might be what your looking for.

If not im sure theres adapters you can get which will convert the instrument jack to be compatible with the soundcard.
