    Hi - need some advice,

    Have Broadband through a local group BB scheme which is a Wireless 'line of sight' Network. The connection/backhaul is 1Mb from SMART (uncontended) and local network contention is below 20. Thing is - since the begining I've been getting wildy fluctuating speeds and wonder where the problem might lie. I had a wireless router and Ethernet card installed at the same time so there are so many variables as to what might be causing it - its hard to tell where to begin.

    If I describe what is happening someone might have an idea, so here goes - When viewing streaming video, the player hasta stop frequently to buffer the content, making it hard going watching online streams. Progressive downloaded video also takes longer than anticipated (when I compare it to my 512 ADSL set up I had at a previous address).

    If I download something - the download starts off really fast (blistering!!) then after downloading the first 600 - 700 kb is slows to around 25kbps for the rest occasionally increasing back up but then slowing again. Also recently I have been getting URLs cannot be found - eg 'www.bbc.co.uk cannot be found' if I wait a few seconds and try again it resolves fine this happens on both Firefox and IE6. Does this ring any bells with people as to the possible cause? I hope someone can help as I am out of my depth.

    Is this normal behaviour for this kind of Wireless Broadband Product compared to standard PST 'copper wire' ADSL or does it sound like there might be a problem somewhere?

    Here are the tech bits

    OS = W2k
    D-Link Fast Ethernet Adapter (DFE-530TX)
    D-Link Wireless Router (DI-624) with CAT 5 cable going into the PC/Ethernet card Wireless LAN is currently switched off as I've no immediate need for it.

    Running NIS Firewall on PC - Router has NAT also - IP's are static config - both the router and the CPE on the wall outside. DMZ is off.

    Any thoughts :confused:
