Peter Jackson joins Halo

    Edge Online tells us...
A posting over at Bungie.net - the official site for Halo developer Bungie - has revealed that Microsoft's deal with Universal and Fox for the Halo movie adapatation has paid off, with another known talent attached to the project. Peter Jackson, director of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy and the upcoming King Kong, will be executive prodcer. Weta Digital, the effects house founded by Jackson that worked on both LOTR and KK, will do the SFX.

Jackson has a known affinity with games, having handpicked Ubisoft and Michel Ancel to make King Kong: The Game after playing Beyond Good & Evil. (Although he also admits his motives were twofold - also wanting to make sure his production firm had a hand in the game's development and subsequent profits, following his dissatisfaction with the way New Line Pictures signed the rights to the Lord Of The Rings games over to Electronic Arts.)

As executive producer, it's assumed that he will have a senior supervisory role over the Halo movie production - much like the way Spielberg and other directors with enough clout oversee other projects their production studios take on. Effects shop WETA will be handling the look of the film. "From fabricating Covenant weapons to building life-sized Forerunner structures to accomplishing shot after shot of complex live-action/CG integration – simply put, there’s no group of people we’d rather have realize the Halo universe on screen," says Bungie's Joseph Staten on the site.

It's being made entirely in New Zealand :

"Halo" will be shot in Wellington, New Zealand, and will use Jackson's production and post-production facilities there. "I'm a huge fan of the game and look forward to helping it come alive on the cinema screen," Jackson said in a statement.

I can only assume that Boll won't be involved in this now.
It's out of his league with Jackson attached.

It would be out of his league if Pauly Shore was playing the lead.
