Hi, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to DVD burning and ripping, so any help would be appreciated.

I have a few .avi files that are encoded in the Xvid format that I want to burn to DVD to watch on my tv. They're all high quality, abut 350mb for 40 minutes footage. I don't want anything fancy with menus or anything. I just want to throw as many episodes on as possible without loseing too much quality. I've tried reading through www.doom9.org but it all seems pretty complicated.

    Thanks

divxTOdvd is £12.65 (about €31) and imo well worth it.

winavi is a piece of garbage avoid.

Personally, I use "main concept encoder" to convert from Avi to MPEG II. I then use TMPGend DVD Author to convert the MPEG II to VOBs. There's also a handy little interface for creating Menus in this program. Both are extremely user-friendly programs and simple to pick up.

Free demos of each are available onlin.e

Those programs seem pretty good, but is there a decent free program out there? (poor student :) )

Have a look around for the beta version of VSO divxtodvd. It was simple but effective. Had no watermarks or anything and allowed you to encode multiple files too. It may still be available on some download sites.

PM me if you can't find it and I might be able to email it to you, I'm sure I have it somewhere on this PC.

It depends on how you interpret the word free.

you could try the film machine or avi2dvd , both are free and easy to use. Also I think both of them support HCEnc which (in my opinion) gives better quality. :D
By the way I wouldn't put any more than 4 on one DVD or the quality will really start to suffer.

Its actually a good program and the fastest encoder on the market.
DivxtoDVD is good too but slower.

I got a free version of DivXtoDVD, and it worked perfectly. My problem is now I have two seperate dvd folders each named the exact same, each containing a different episode. Basically two sets of Video_Ts folders.

How do you combine these so that two things can be burnt on to the one DVD?

I dont want menus or scenes, if each episode was a seperate scene/chapter it would be grand.

Thanks for the help so far.

u could also go and buy a divx player , i got one form pixmania for €48+p&p
tis excellent , u can get about 5 divx movies on each dvd so saves money on blank dvd's also it is a region free dvd player and that is always a bonus, it came with every thing , scart lead , s-video leads , has 5.1 build in

The beta version of divxtodvd should allow you yo select multiple input files (select more than one with a CTRL-click) and output them into one Video_TS folder. Maybe you're version is the newer full release trial version which may work differently.

A divx capable DVD player is also a good idea. Aldi and Lidl both have Divx players quite often for around €60.

That's the worst exchange rate I've ever seen!

I sort of have the same problem as the OP.
Ok I'd like to burn some avi's onto dvd. (about 350mb each so say 4 files)
I have gone about it 2 ways and been left with 2 stumpers.
I used DivxToDvd to turn the avi files in VOB. that was grand. But i'd like to create a menu to access each individual video, rather than playing them all in a row.
Can these files be loaded into DVD Styler? I've been getting a lot of problems.

Secondly, anyone know of a good AVI - MPG converter? I've been using TMPGend but not getting any decent results. Can't seem to get audio embedded in the video file, basically don't know what settings to choose.
Are there any better converters? Is "Main Concept" any better?
