Not quite sure where this thread belongs.

Has anyone had any experience of dental work by laser? I heard that there is a Dentist in town that uses lasers instead of drills.

Sound like it would be a far less painfull experience.

I think I need some fillings or possibly a root canal. Any idea what the price would be like?

I had a very big filling done a few weeks ago and he was a crap dentist. The pain was unbearable and my face swelled up for 3-4 days. Dont think i could face another drill yet.

    thanks

    Wavey.

Well Wavey, how are ya.To be honest i'd prefer if this thread was in Biology/Medicine but i'm not going to dwell on that.
As far as i know there is nowhere at the moment in Dublin offering laser surgery.I was under the impression only minor work(ie teeth whitening) was performed by laser. However i could be proven wrong(doubtful but slightly possible)on this issue so don't take my word as red
Anyway best of luck with the whole thing. It'll all be over soon buddy.Stay strong.

Sounds gimicky tbh, just go to one that uses a decent amount of anastethic, if you want more just pretend that you don't feel numb yet and you can still feel the metal needle thing he pokes your gums with to check it's working.

Weird... I've had loads of fillings, no pain, no swelling.
But then my dentist isn't stingy with the novocaine... and at €80 per filling I fúcking well want my moneys worth of the stuff!
God, I could go for some fillings right about now!

    Thanks for the replies lads.

Yeah Im not having much luck tracking down this laser treatment. But I have read that the Gas is very good.
    Anybody ever have this method?

I have had fillings years ago and the were relatively painless, but since going to this particular dentist I just couldnt face anything touching my teeth.

I have to get my wizdom teeth out. Pain in the bollox. I have a cavity in my upper left wisdom tooth and half of it is still in the gum...god knows what they are going to do for that! It wasn't my fault....my toothbrush could not reach that far up to clean it!

I've never tried the gas tbh... what my guy does is first spray the area of the gum with some numbing spray (dunno what it's called) which makes the novocaine injection pinch less :D ... leaves you alone for a few minutes for it to kick in, comes back and asks how it feels before going any further.
I was always nervous about dentist visits before I went to this guy.
The only discomfort I've felt while getting fillings was when I had to strech my (sumptuous, voluptuous) lips wide enough to let him in at my very back teeth.

    It's going to be painful.

My only advice is that if you are a smoker, take their advice and don't smoke for a few hours afterwards. Dry socket isn't nice.

Oh and when they say take these painkillers when you get home. Try not to forget...

I'm my own worst enemy sometimes I think. :)

I think you are talking about ozone gaz that heals the cavity hence no need for filling or drilling http://www.dentalozone.co.uk/search/?region=2

No no no no no! this is not what I wanted to know! In my life, the most pain i have ever had was from a tooth!!!!!!!! Getting root canal and the pain leading up the day i got it done on was atrocious. I passed out from the pain one of the nights before the day...seriously!
