I need to be able to fill in some forms that are available on the web as .pdf files, but don't want to print them off and fill in by hand.

There's a piece of software called pdf editor 2.3 which is pretty good, but unless you register it bungs big watermarks on everything.

I need something to allow me to type text into blank areas on .pdf documents.

    Anyone?

You could use your favourite graphics program (gimp, paint shop pro, etc) and "print" the file to PDF using something like Primo PDF, which is free.

OpenOffice can export documents to PDF but I don't think it'll let you edit existing PDF's.
