    have you considered Blackpool? it's nearer. Failing that, i'd say manchester as more likely to get a direct train from the airport.

    Definitely Manchester. There are direct trains to Preston approx every 1/2 hour and others requiring a change. The journey is about 1h10m.

    It will take the best part of an hour just to get to Liverpool station from the airport by bus.

    Blackpool Airport is a few minutes walk from the nearest train station which is about a 1/2 hour journey to Preston but there is only an hourly service on that line. I don't think there are many flights to Dublin either.
