Brewery smell

I've noticed that throughout the city center there is a noticeable malty smell coming from the brewery. I know, I know it's Guinness and complaining about it in Dublin might be not very appropriiate or even possibly be a criminal offence ;)
In my old country I once lived in a place near a brewery that had exactly the same issue and I thought it wasn't possible in other countries.. how naive of me.
My question is: should I expect a lot of this nice fragrance in the Old Kilmainham Village, just behind Heuston? Any smelly experiences to share?

Yeah. Expect it alright. I went to James' St CBS and the smell was almost ever present. I wasn't unpleasant by any means. A rich smell, sometimes like roasted coffee. Mind you that was a long time ago, over 30 years, and the manufacturing process may well have changed the smell output. Thank God it hasn't changed the product.

You'll definitely get the smell there. I lived in an apartment on the Quays near the brewery a few years ago and got the smell everytime I opened a window or left the building. I found it a bit heavy at first but just got used to it after a while and didn't really notice it anymore.

Be grateful it is only one smell! I lived in Artane and if the wind blew one way you got the smell of chocolate and crisps from the factories in Coolock while the Artane boys band practiced was ringing in your ears.

Yeah, AFAIK most of the production is done from afternoon into the night, so the smell is more prevalent in the evening time...lovely aroma though!

Thanks, guys! Somebody told me the wind in this area goes mostly in South direction, so chances are, it'll be ok :)

It could be worse, you have been living in Dundalk a while back.... wind from one direction and a lovely smell of Harp... wind from the other direction and a lovely smell of ciggies from PJ Carrolls.
