Laptop warranties?

If anyone has any reccomendations for various makes after sales care i'd really apreciate it. I'm looking to get a new laptop fresh from binning my one and a half year old sony Vaio (the motherboard of which Sony generously offered to replace for 2000 euro odd) and as a result i'd like to get one with some form of two or even three year extended warranty. The thing is only Dell seems to have a major prescence here ( Acer for example reroute all calls to their UK branch and list a third party repair shop in N.Ireland as their official repair centre), and i'd really like to avoid the hassle and expense of fighting over repairs/replacements and shipping abroad back and forth. Has anyone had good experience of efficent quick turnaround warranty service or is this simply not an option when ordering from UK/German sites (leaving Dell as the sole "ie" option as far as I can see)?

I have a Toshiba Portégé and these come with a 3 year warranty as far as I am aware. I had a screen problem with mine earlier this year...I phoned Toshiba and they were meant to arrange for UPS to collect it for shipment to the UK for repair...after several days, despite my chasing them and UPS, no-one had called to collect it.

So I got on the net and found a Toshiba dealer and warranty service centre in Walkinstown. Several journeys to them and back and their persistence in solving the problem deduced it was a screen fault...a new keyboard and screen later, and after about 2 weeks or something and it was eventually fixed.e

If I could afford it I would probably go for a Toshiba laptop again, on the strength of and peace of mind of the 3 yr warranty and that I know BMS in Dublin will eventually get to the bottom of any faults. If I were to go for a Sony, as they are an attractive and well-specced laptop, it would only be if I could also purchase the extended warranty, and even then I would weigh up the pros and cons of it against a Toshiba model.

Dell's NBD service is hard to beat. I tend to buy a fair few laptops for various people and they are the only crowd who fix the problem without spending days or weeks doing diagnostics, etc.

I have had 3 problems with my latitude x300 (motherboard, screen and touchpad) but they have each been fixed within 24hours. I know the machine shouldnt give that much trouble (its a rebadged Samsung too...), but at least they fix it quick (and have promised to replace it if I get another service call).

You could try the lidl targa ones. They have a two (or was it three) year warranty.

Cheers for the suggestions, i think i'm probably best going dell as this will be used by someone else, there are better value for spec makes about i'd probably go for if I was buying for myself but the dell warranty is attractive when the person hasn't the first clue and just wants the laptop working again quickly (besides no doubt it'd be me getting the blame if the dealer drags their heels fixing it :p )
