    Hey Jossy,

I've got the powershot s2. Its my 1st camera and Very nice. I'm actually thinking of selling it. I have it about 3/4months. The quality is great, video is pretty good and the zoom on it is crazy.

Here's a few pics I took on it.

I'd recommend that camera from using it myself :).
    Hope it helped

I'm in the same boat, going travelling for a few months and want a better digicam (the one I have is rubbish) with a decent optical zoom and high quality pictures, but preferably not bulky.

The price ranges are very wide - $189-350 for the first one. Would it be worthwhile asking a friend to pick me one up in the States before he comes to visit, or buy it on the internet?

I'd say you'd be best off getting your friend to bring it over for you. You could possibly get a bit added on by customs aswell as a broken camera. You could be left a month/2 having to wait for a replacment.

I wouldnt recommend the powershot if your dont want a bulky camera. Its not too bulky but compared to some of the sony cams it is. I bought it for travelling too. The Quality is great.

    Good luck!
