Cheapest flights to Melbourne

    I have been scouring the web for cheapest return flights to Melbourne from Dublin for next January and can't seem to find anything cheaper than close on 2grand (all in). This is rediculous, I've heard of many folk flying to Oz for under 1.5grand all in. I'm not too bothered about where I stop on the way, etc. As long as I get from Dublin to Melbourne within a reasonable amount of time, so no sleep overs on via locations.

    The best prices I've seen so far are from USIT (about €1650).
    That was with Quantas (Dub-Lon-Mel ->[return]) which is pretty sweet.

    Is there any way to get this under 1.5grand all in?

    At this stage, I'm not sure you'll get much cheaper than that fare with Qantas from USIT. Phone around a few travel agencies - I believe there is one specialising in flights to Australia on Middle Abbey Street

    I did a search for leaving on Jan 15 and back on Feb 15 for €1344 via Paris and Singapore with Air France. Found that on ebookers.ie

    www.australianholidays.ie

    After trying the internet as much as I could, we phoned them and they were the best. We're going for three weeks from the 27th of December

    As a follow up I managed to get return flights (all charges inclusive) for €1118

    AerLingus (Dublin -> Heathrow)
    British Airways (Heathrow -> Singapore) (stop over for just 2 hours)
    British Airways (Singapore -> Melbourne)

    Return journey is the same ;)

    We first went to British Airways own web site: http://www.britishairways.com/travel/home/public/en_ie

    Got the flights there for €960 and even got to pick our seats on the plane (provisional) (I do like their site, very well put together it must be said).

    We found that the price was crazy when we put Dublin as our starting point instead of London. So we got from Dublin to London for about a quarter of the cost by booking ourselves with AerLingus (very easily done, because there are flights from Dublin to Heathrow practically every hour).

    Had a look at www.australianholidays.ie (cheers Funkstard) and it seemed good until I clicked on "Book". Initially I was getting flights for €870 with Singapore Airlines (which is excellent) but then was landed with another €295 for Tax/Services :(
