Have same problem with IOLBB+ been a disgrace for nearly 2 weeks in the evening and worst weekend since I got the service. Pings skyhigh download speeds no better than a 512 service on a 2mb connection.

Me too for IOLBB+ but its not that bad.

Only get 100Kb-ish from heanet when downloading, pings seem ok

    Bandwith issue for IOL now?

Brutal all day today. First hop on UTV's network is pinging around 170ms!
Playing games I ping around 200-250. Unplayable.

Makes grim reading im afraid. Funny thing is i've sent Esat 3 emails complaining about poor latency/download speeds and no response from them. Again it started 2 weeks ago with pings jumping in bursts after 7pm and slowly spiraled to continuous high latency. This weekend since Friday evening its been terrible non-stop. Otherwise the 18 months i've had the service its been reliable. Could this be a contention issue or some technical fault?

Since multiple ISP's seem to be having this problem, it makes me think that its a cock up on the eircom side of things :/

Everything normal for me. Pings same as usual speed 1.5 - 1.7 meg on clicksilver plus.

pings are 17 - 30 on HL2, CSS, DOD: Source and more for me on IOLBB+

Seems very strange? Thats 2 people each with Clicksilver+ and IOLBB+ and both have conflicting service preformances. Well my service is still very poor so i'll wait till Monday morning and give Esat a phone call since emails dont seem to have any affect.

Can people please post their geographic location aswell?

On Clicksilver (Basic 1mb package) in Carrigaline, Co.Cork exchange. My speeds are down to ~300-450kbps and pings are over 200ms.

    excellent description !

TRaceRT's and ping see if it a CLicksilver or Interweb problem !!

    pos them up !

all ping Boards.ie and trcrt Boards.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

No need to be so condescending. Its not an "interweb" problem. The high pings start at the first hop on UTV's network.

Hey I'm on the Dennehys Cross Exchange in Cork. With IOLBB+ 2mb connection. Currently 590kpbs preformance according to IrishBroadbandSpeedTest. My Latency never drops under 170ms pinging clarity.jolt.co.uk. Good innit

I'm off to Metro myself (well assuming the LOS test passes :))

lots of posts like this on their newsgroup. The only response from UTV was who to send your cancellation mail to - not even an attempt to persuade people to stay

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭NIBBS

quite simple really, UTV resells Eircom DSL - if there's a problem in Eircom, there's gonna be one in UTV too......( I know there are often issues with UTV too, but I have to say I don't play online games enough at the minute to worry about it....)

there's no point in moving to companies like Digiweb or Smart until they are well enough established and have a large enough user base, in other words until the contention is happening, this always happens anyway, look at all the complaints about IBB now - I remember when people were jumping to them because they were the next big thing......

if one of the other providers proves to give better service and actually provide the service they advertise, I'll then think of switching - until then I'll stay where I am, bad times and all........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,088 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

I know what you're saying, but given that UTV has been terrible lately for even simple browsing - for which of course there has been no decent explanation - I don't think I could do any worse by moving (plus its cheaper and has only a 6 month contract too if it does turn out to be THAT bad).

Aside from that, UTV's other flaws: not passing savings onto customers without new 12 month contracts, no support to speak of save for one poor guy who tries his best in the newsgroup, making changes without notifying customers (eg: the recent "privacy" option that appeared on the online statements), not keeping pace with current offers from competitors etc means I've had more than enough from them personally.

My 12 months was up a while back, but I stayed on seeing if they'd sort it out.. they haven't - if anything it seems to be getting worse - and so I'm taking my money elsewhere.

I've been following the Metro feedback thread and so far people there seem happy. There'll always be a "next big thing". If you hang on waiting for it, you'll never move anywhere. :)

I've been trying to switch to Digiweb for the last week (not metro, as it is sadly unavailable in kilkenny) but they seem to have never heard of bitstream port transfers
