For the past 5 days my Eircom Business BB has been really, really crappy. Nothing changed on my end, but I cant download faster than 50Kb/s (instead of 250+) and online games are virtually impossible to play.. as even pinging Eircom.net gets me:
    Pinging home.eircom.net [159.134.198.138] with 32 bytes
    Reply from 159.134.198.138: bytes=32 time=377ms TTL=60
    Reply from 159.134.198.138: bytes=32 time=500ms TTL=60
    Reply from 159.134.198.138: bytes=32 time=505ms TTL=60
    Reply from 159.134.198.138: bytes=32 time=382ms TTL=60

It seems to come in phases, but usually goes bad for a couple of hours then good for 50min, then bad again. Im on the Tyrrelstown (D15) exchange.. anyone noticed something similar? Also, do Eircom have throttling implemented on their service (however I dont think I have downloaded that much)?

    Matt,
Did you ever think of reporting a fault with Eircom?

Um... I have, but as I said, I wanted to see if anyone else is having trouble (which appears to be the case as someone else started a thread).

Thanks for the constructive replies tho!

I noticed the same issue in work there last week. Business 3mb line uncontended getting only 50/60KB-sec. Reckon there must be something wrong or they've startded some sort of rated QoS system. Mad anyways

    Strange quality from Eircom..

Normally theyre pings and down speeds are perfect.

    Id give em a ring.

Didnt get a chance to call them, but got a reply to my email. They tell me to try the Eircom speedtest and there appears to be no problem on their end:

"If the speed is between 50 and 100kbps it shows that the line is fine
and its the PC that's going slow"

Well, what a well thought out and constructed answer. Im so glad now Im paying for a Business package.
