Best of luck to you man :) I'm leaving my four year career next week to concentrate on the last year of my University course - absence of the regular paycheck is a daunting prospect no? If the searc is enabled, I seem to recall one of the Mods giving up a job to open a newsagent recently also - maybe he has some friendly advice, again, good luck!

Good luck in your new career. I too quit IT a number of years ago and have never looked back. It is said that it takes individuals two or three career changes before they find their true vocation. This fact isn't surprising considering that most people are forced to 'choose' their career in their late teens, long before they have fully matured.

Hey that's good to hear, man :) There was a thread about someone else doing something similar, and a few people posted in it saying that they've done the same. It's nice to see so many people not accepting mediocrity, and working a boring job -- living their dream, innit! lol. Hopefully I'll have to courage (and the resources) to do the same when I'm finished college (although I don't think I have a dream at the moment :()

Good luck. I quit IT after 7 years yesterday, but have no idea what I want to do next.
    Any suggestions?

    Good luck fella,
I'm in IT a long time and I want out at this stage too. I am finding it hard to change career though.

Where did you learn how to open the shop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,212 ✭✭✭✭Tom Dunne

    I know how you feel.

I have left my job of 13 years (in IT too) today. Very mixed emotions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭Einstein

Yeah I never really learned exactly how to open a shop, kinda just learnt as I went along! I did work for a long time and kinda part-time supervise in a spar shop for a few years, so had an idea what I was getting into...Although it's amazing how fast you learn in a short time when you need to!!
I reckon the only way to get out is set yourself a target. I originally planned to get out of IT in January of this year. Fair enough it's October tomorrow, but without that deadline, I'd still be here in 2 years time saying "I'd love to leave"...

Best of luck in your new career Mr Divers.I hope your a jolly happy go lucky fellow because the last thing this county needs is another grouchy newsagent who seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders and who greets his customers with nothing more than a scowl.
Anyway please do me one favour, recently there has been an alarming trend where newsagents in my area have been increasing the price of Mega Meanies from 35 to 45 cent. This is quite simply outrageous,,Pighead loves nothing more than to wake up early, head down to the spar with a shiny 2 euro coin in his pocket and buy a twix a bag of Mega meanies and THE SUN newspaper(classy Pighead). With this latest increase my bill comes to 2.05 which is highly annoying.Do the right thing buddy and best of luck

    will not upset Pighead ;)
