    Chelsea are Premiership Champs!
Although it's only September and the season is only 7 games old, Chelsea are clear of the pack and not looking like they will be caught. Accordingly, Paddy Power have declared the title race over by paying out on single bets on Chelsea to win the Premiership!

    Chelsea Premiership Payout!
Applies to bets placed before 8am on Thursday September 29th only
    Applies to single bets only.
    Paddy Power football rules apply

I guess that says it all really if the bookies are paying out all ready but last nights performance wouldnt fill me with confidence if I was a chelsea fan. Damn why didnt I bet on them?!

It's just for the free publicity and goodwill it will get them - a pretty shrewd move really.

I'd say their exposure was pretty low on this so they decided to chase the publicity of paying out a miniscule amount.

Similar to their advertising campaigns for their online casino and poker room, all in all it smacks of desperation, I wonder will we see lower than expected results from them

They have been doing this for years and it backlashed a few seasons ago when they paid out on Arsenal and United won the league.

    :O

*wonders if this is fallout(or more publicity grabbing) from the poor taste 'Last Supper' poster campaign????

Have bookmakers not learned from past mistakes? It seems not  Paddy Powers are idiots and i sincerly hope they get stung big time, this is an act of madness with less than 2 months gone in the new season

In a few weeks they'll announce that they're paying out on next season and not taking bets on the following season

I'd say Chelsea will be 1-10 to win the Premiership next season anyway the way United and Arsenal are performing.

Yeah like SuperFurry points out it's just a publicity stunt. Just like the way once a year almost like clockwork they seem to 'accidently' come out with billboards that ends up offending the catholic church and as a result get their name splashed all over page3 of the broadsheets.

Can you not see that this would be a tiny book?

What they pay out will probably be less than an advertisment in a daily newspaper costs.
They are not mugs by any means.

Iago had a good point, is more likely to be linked to 'corporate results' rather than anything else.

I think the main point here is

    "Single Bets Only"

Now how many people do you know have single bets on Chelsea of more then
    a few hundred with PP?
If you were going to bet that plus some, you'd go to the exchanges and get better odds. So it is "cheap" publicity for PP that costs them nothing!

Of course its cheap publicity! Chelsea were Odds on before the seaon started so they will have a very small book on this and it will be in every paper today in Ireland and the UK and PP were all over Sky Sports News yesterday, the value of the PR will far outweigh the payout. FFS we're all talking about it here :D

And surprisingly by paying out on Chelsea they get up the noses of some punters who support Arsenal and United, who in turn go and back them just to prove PP wrong. Which invariably results in more revenue to off-set what they paid out on Chelsea if they do end up winning the title (which looks a distinct possibility).

Surely if the believe it is really over they should be offering mad odds of over 1000-1 on the other teams winning it but i doubt thats the case.

Of course its cheap publicity, but the main reason is to stop people sticking a few grand on odds of 1.15(which i have).

For every grand you put on chelsea you won 150 euro, easy money if you ask me :)

nice one Jivin turkey, therein lies the difference between a Mug and a Gambler
Mugs always back their own team to win out of mixture of blind loyalty/eternal optimism.
Semi Pro Gamblers separates his support of his team from the probablity of his team winning.
Gamblers would bet against their own team if theres a winning bet in it.
    Bookies love Mugs.
