Lol if you had Makele and Essien doing all the work and Duff and Robben crossing im pretty sure you could arrive late into the box and get a shot in 1 outta 5 times.

Exactly. Which is why (Liverpool fan or not), I can't understand how Lampard is often considered to be better than Gerrard.

lampards quality really shines when he plays for England and doesnt have makelele cleaning up for him, by "Shines" i mean he's non existant.

the best way i can describe lampard and makelele would be that makelele is lampards kickstand, he holds him up and makes him look good.

lampard worth about what chelsea paid for him

I agree lads, this is why this OPTA index is used just to rate Lampards performance against other crap players in the EPL.

Players like Makelele and Gerrard are not included in the same ranking system.

Lampard is just a crap player surrounded by superstars.

Yet still has managed 150+ starts under two different managers, for one of the best clubs in the league over that period. Sure it's all just hype. ;)

Of course he is :) I still wouldn't be unhappy if he signed for Blackburn though. And I'm sure you wouldn't cry if he signed for Newcastle.

Even if he does need Makele to play well, he was still Chelsea's most effective player in the CL last season, scoring vital goals as they went to the semis.

I think he'll be doing the same this season, only this year they'll go all the way.

This debate is all to familiar. Gerrard was poor last night again. I hate watching him carry the ball. He's such a poor dribbler but keeps on doing it. Lampard has such similar attributes but uses his abilities a lot better. U dont see him dribbling th eball and running wide because there is players better at it so let them do it.

Thats why I prefer Lampard. He know what he's good at and leaves the rest to the other lads which is why they are there in the first place (Robben, Duff, Makelele, Essien).

I was being sarcastic! And I don't follow Newcastle! :)

Lampard is an incredible central midfielder in a 4-3-3 system.
He has an ability to finish at the levels of the Scholes of old, and when the ball falls to someone in the box, Chelsea fans want that person to be Lampard.

Sure Makelele and Essien do the defensive work, but thats part of the game.
We don't slate Henry for being ****e because Campbell does most of the defensive work.
In a 4-3-3, you can have an AMC who isn't really concerned with defending.

In a 4-4-2 however he does the same thing, but its bad for the team since they get overrun in midfield, but they don't play a 4-4-2, they play a 4-3-3, and Lampard is a god in it.
