I've just installed two WD Raptors in RAID 0 in my new PC, and I was wondering if I'd need to get some additional cooling, because they're operating at 10000 RPM. I've seen these 3.5" hard drive coolers and was wondering if it's worth getting one. Anyone using a similar setup?

have one of them and have a 120mm fan blowing directly at it, no probs at all. the main thing is the bottom side of the drives, they have some weird 'exhaust' hole which shouldn't be left with some space to the next obstacle

A fan blowing across them is adequate, once the air it's blowing is cool, but if you can afford it then hard drive coolers do work.

Have my raptor in a silentmaxx hard drive cooler...seems to transfer the heat quite well from the HD.

I have two 80mm fans sucking air across them and out the case. I have temp probs on them. It's cold tonight but they usually are around 32-36C.

I have 6 HDDs in 3 set RAID 0, first set is 2 Raptors, all I have to keep them cool are 2 120mm fans at the front of the CMStacker case, never had any problem apart from my last samsung drive is dead, all other drives are perfect, system temp is around 25c to 30c everything else on watercooling and a 120mm at the back of the case, and 1 more 120mm on the Radiator

36C is a fine temp for a hard drive. what are you worrying about? Id only be worrying if it was above the mid forties at least
