Having seen Land Of The Dead and Boy Eats Girl this week, I'm in a zombie movie mood.... What are the best Zombie movies out there?

    Braindead
    Bad Taste
    Bone Sickness
    Zombie Flesh Eaters
All Romeros Zombie Movies - Night, Dawn and Day
Return of the Living Dead III
Night of the Living Dead Tom Savini Remake
    UnDead

These are my favourites in any case....

Wasn't Bad Taste aliens? It was a great movie though.

Hmmm.....best overall I've seen would be Romero's movies, although the best bad one would be House of the Dead

Yeah Bad Taste was aliens, but it had some really cool zombie like scenes at the beginning and at random intervals throughout the movie so I thought I'd throw it in.

House of the Dead, thats the worst of the worst movies I've seen in any genre ever. No redeeming features whatsoever.

Great zombie films overall are the ones I've mentioned above. There are a good few others I haven't mentioned that have fantastic, violent gore but are really crap films, such as Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 and 3, Zombie Holocaust, etc.

    Dawn of the dead, best!
    Shaun of the dead, funniest!

I went to see Dead Meat in the Irish Film Institute. A zombie movie based in Leitrim. Well worth a watch!!

The only zombie movies I've ever seen are Resident Evil, 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead (remake) and most recently Boy eats Girl. I wasn't mad on Resident Evil or Dawn of the Dead, but I would definitely recommend the other two.

Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town is brilliantly funny and kitchsy - stars Billy Bob Thornton too.

I dunno. I watched it while extremely drunk with about 8 other people, so we made alot of hilarious comments/observations. Guess you could make any film funny using this method though :-p

Im also hungry for brains I mean zombie films. As well as playing Resident Evil (none of this film baloney!) Ive been watching the following:

Watched Night of The Living Dead last night - it's all quite cliched til the shocking finale, which is probably the point. Seriously didnt see all that death coming! Amazing film when all is considered though.

Dawn of the dead remake is pretty cool. Theres a zombie baby!

Original Dawn and Day are on tonight and tomorrow on BBC at some crazy hour. Ill be setting the VHS.

28 days later isnt too bad, was a little disapointed though.

And Shaun of the Dead... Nuff said.

I know the director, the short film he made in his final year of college was excellent too, it was called Brain Eater. He's been editing Dead Meat for so long, I haven't had a chance to see it since i've been living in North America... It's good is it?

It was one of the first films in the genre, and was actually incredibly original when it was made. Most of the gore films that came before it were based on around lunatics and rapists.

Aside from some of the excellent films mentioned, such as Shaun Of The Dead, 28 Days Later, and Braindead...

    Dellamorte Dellamore
I, Zombie - This is not your average zombie movie though, it's some seriously heavy going stuff.
Versus - Not strictly a zombie movie, but it has some of the most OTT zombie blasting action there is.
    The Beyond
    Night Of The Creeps

Some old classic hokum there aswell, but who doesn't like a nice bit of cheese now and then?

Dawn Of The Dead (1978) über alles

My name is koneko and I'm a zombie-addict.

    Some recommendations:
    -Anything by Romero
-See if you can get any Fulci stuff (it's usually low on plot/acting, but great gore), like Zombie.
    -Cannibal Holocaust.
    -Bad Taste.
    -Braindead (aka Dead Alive)
-The Evil Dead movies (though not technically zombie movies).
-Return of the Living Dead and Return of the Living Dead 3 (Mindy Clarke is just SUPER in this).
    -Reanimator.
    -Shaun of the Dead.
-Bio Zombie! I love this one, it's so funny (Hong Kong)
-Night of the Living Dead remake. Not the best film ever, but it has some great zombies in it, Tony Todd (yay!) and it's directed by Tom Savini. Love it.
-Undead (Australian, saw it recently, really weird but entertaining)
    -Versus (martial arts+zombie=fun)
-Junk (Japanese, not the best movie ever made, but it's damn well got a lot of action and... well... zombies)

I haven't got Stacy (Japanese) yet but it sounds like fun.

28 Days Later, while entertaining, is not a zombie movie.

Being both a huge fan of Zombies and Japanese films, Junk should've been perfect, but I honestly hated it. It was sub-Fulci garbage I thought, and while there were some parts that were ok, I could barely sit through the film.

Stacy sounds mad enough to be intruiging at the least though.

For me, Zombies don't make a Zombie movie, it's the situation. In that sense I'd nearly recommend Assault On Precinct 13 (The original of course) in this thread, it's basically a Zombie movie without Zombies, just look at the last ditch stand in the basement - it's pure Zombie stuff! So, while technically 28 Days Later doesn't have Zombies, it's still a Zombie movie. I've said Zombie too much in that paragraph.

Yeah, it just didn't do it for me (28 Days Later). I thought it was great, as an action movie, but it lacked certain things for me that makes it a zombie movie. That's not to say it wasn't good.

Junk, I see what you mean, and by no means is it a good movie :) The acting by the non-Asian characters (the American army guys) was so laughably bad it just made the whole thing entertaining, it was just SO bad it looped back to good again for me. I'll let you know when I get Stacy so you can *cough* borrow it.

Aye, that army characters just made it one of the most painfully grating things I've had to sit through.

Ohhh I forgot about Versus. Brilliant film.

And yeah....28 Days Later was very lacking I thought.

Great first 40 minutes in 28 days later. If any of ye read comics The Walking Dead is a good zombie one.

Can’t go wrong with Return of the Living Dead, classic! In fact I’m going to buy it tomorrow to add to my collection!

Agreed, some very memorable zombies in that one.

Don't forget Day of the Dead is on tonight (BBC2 I think) for anyone who is interested. I highly reccomend it if you haven't seen it.

Hmm... I thought that was mentioned already on this thread, but apparently not.
You got a time for that? Might like to catch it again myself.

My personal faves are: Romero's films (I still haven't seen Land of the Dead, the heathen that I am), Braindead (the kung-fu priest always makes me laugh :D ), 28 Days Later (I love the beginning of it), the remake of Dawn - surprisingly good and Zombie Flesh Eaters (eyeballs and splinters of wood do NOT go together!).

I haven't seen to many but I have to say I loved DawnOfTheDead (that's the name of the 70's one in the mall right?). I loved all the ridiculous machismo and and stupid dialogue running thru it and the situation itself was so surreal.

I saw Night of the Living Dead later on and I didn't really like it so I was gonna ask since DayOfTheDead is on tonight would it be worth watching for a person who enjoy DawnOTD or is the tone too serious?

The tone is pretty serious in all the films but if you liked Dawn then you'd probably like Day. That said, it was on last night so good luck on that one! ;)

Drat! Ah i'll pick up on video or something :) Still you can't tell me Dawn was meant to be serious? I thought it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

I suppose people interpret different things in different ways. Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that!
