Using Bioethanol in 'regular' cars

    Firstly, apologies if this has been asked before - I couldn't find it anywhere.

    If it's even possible, what needs to be modified for a regular car to be able to run on BioEthanol E85 mix? I can't see that it would be such a big job

    Local Maxol garage have just started stocking E85 and 89 cent per litre.

    Thanks. I'll go and ask the dealer, although I don't hold out much hope of getting an answer from him. In my experience, dealers don't always know that much

    Some reading here, it seems a 90/10 ratio mix is the best anyone will stand over without needing modifications.

    Thanks Mike. Just read int he times that Ford is launching it's Focus 1.8 FFV today in Ireland, which may qualify for a 50% rebate in VRT. If it does, it should retail for about 20k for the 5-door.
    Maxol in Sandymount is the only garage in the country to retail E85 BioEthanol at the moment, but maxol will be introducing a 5% ethanol mix petrol to all garages in the near future

    The Merc C240 sold in the US is able to run on E85 as is.
    One wonders whether it is possible to run on E85 in this car in Europe and what other cars in their range run on E85 too?

    Id go with 85/15 for peace of mind.Seems to be the recommendation of most manufacturers.
    Even at that mix you`d save a fortune on your fuel costs.

    Costs are about 25% cheaper but I think that fuel efficiency is down a bit on normal petrol. You hsould still come out ahead though. Even if it cost the same it's be better for the environment (70% less emissions I think). Not of course that you serious petrolheads would care ;)
