If you have a Linksys WRT54G do not upgrade to the latest fimware v4.01.2. Your wireless signal strength will go down the tube v.3.03.9 is stable

Do you know this to be true for all users of this modem/routers firmware or has it only happened to you so far?

    heh. RTFM.
Your signal strength shouldnt (and isnt changed by this)
I have a medium-range link (1 mile) working just fine with a pair of WRT54g's.
Even after I updated the firmware. My signal strength is actually 4% better than before, but that may just be a natural fluctuation in the radio propogation pattern.
Then again, the neighbours may have simply trimmed that hedge that was partially obscuring the LOS. :)

Again, are you sure that this was an official firmware, and can cite other users/websites that note issue also. Please cite references!

    That's the WRT54g

I've got a Wap54g(possibly s) - Same model with an ADSL modem built into it. Would that have the same range?? Bloody hell ... a mile's a long way in my book :)

Ahh the guts of the AP were taken out and attached to external antennae, which are pointing at each other.

which model version are you talking about? i know my version 2.0 has had alot of problems but apart from occasional drop offs i've found the may 2005 firmware update to be quite hassle free.

sorry not at home to check the number of the update.
