hi just wondering if anyone can help. my computer hasnt been able to find my disk drives . it's telling me in device manager that it has installed the appropriate driver but cannot find the hardware device (code 41). its a nec dvd rw(the black
komplett one) and a no name cd drive.
i tried a new lead to the mother board and installing a different disk drive but its still the same. Possible main board problem.?

    it's a self build
    athlon 64 3400 socket 754
msi k8n neo fsr main board
    512 ram
    thanks for your help.

Just a quick thing to check.
Is there power going to them?
Are they showing up in the BIOS setup screen? (enter that when you turn on the PC, and they should be there under Primary/Secondary IDE)
If it's not the power, and they're still not showing up in the bios, then it could be a jumper issue on the drive.
This page can explain it better than me - http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000415.htm#02
Have a look at the "Set jumper" section.

yea they have power going to them as they still open and close .They were working up until just recently.Jumpers are set fine i tried putting them in singularly and had them set to master. the comp detected them on their own and tried to install them but i thought with xp they didnt need drivers. couldnt find drivers anyway so the comp is detecting them but they still wont work.
