Hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but is 300gb the biggest external drive?

I am pondering getting rid of my pc since I bought a new laptop recently, but it has 500gb in it and the laptop has a miserly 60gb, I could just buy 2 of the 300gb but I was wondering if there is a 500gb before I do.

BTW whats the repsonse time with an external drive like, would it be similar to the internal one? Could you run games and software off it?

    Thanx..
