Hmmm, not sure of my favourite, but best fight scenes definately goes to Jackie Chan's Gorgeous....fantastic beyond belief.

Others in my favourites include The Avenging Fist, Red Wolf, The Black Sheep Affair, Meltdown, and there are probably loads of others that aren't instantly coming to me right now....

I know it's new, but Ong Bak kicks the ass off anything I've seen in many a year. Instant classic.

yea ong bak is a great flick too, it'll be interesting to see if jaa can pull off another classic after, considering it took something like 3 years to train and practice for...

in regards to the more recent martial arts flicks i still think ct,hd beats hero and house of flying dagger hands down. In terms of characters, action and story.
hero and house seem to be a little style over substance...

Once Upon A Time In China was a pretty good trilogy too, really enjoyable. There's also some of the more obvious ones like Enter The Dragon.

His new film is called Tom Yum Goong (hope I got the spelling right) I saw a teaser on imdb and it looks really promising!

just watched the trailers for that new tony jaa film, looks impressive alright...
same story as ong bak except replace the statue for an elephant, although we dont exactly watch these films for the story.
it looks like the thai film industry is taking over from the declining hong kong industry for martial arts films

the stuntmen in tony jaa's films have one of the worst jobs ever!

necro any idea when its released or if its getting a release here?

I love all the old Jackie Chan films.

Wheels on Meals has one of the best fight scenes I've ever seen.

Project A and Operation Condor are great too.

Jet Li's Once Upon a Time in China and the Heroic Legend of Fong Sai Yuk are great too.

I'd argue that the likes of the Seven Samurai wouldn't really be a martial arts film as such, rather that they're films that just happen to contain some swordplay.

yea i agree, jet li's fong sai yuk 1&2 r great.
supercop (jackie chan & michelle yeoh) is really good aswell...
hmm trying to think of more....

another jet li one thats kick ass, its called twin dragons i think, about 2 monks who grow up together but choose different sides in a emperor vs. rebels war type thing...michelle yeoh is in that one too

Well I'd kind of disagree. You're correct in so far as what people associate with when the words 'Martial Arts' are mentioned. Seven Samurai doesn't have guys running up walls and kicking and punching each other. It does however have copious amounts of sword, spear & archery, all disciplines of which fall within the definition of 'martial arts'.

    And yes, I'm being pedantic.

Ah feck it to be different Shaolin Soccer :D

my favourite is either 36 chambers of shaolin(1978) or return to the 36 chambers(1980)(with return just edging it). I also like the spiritual boxer(any jackie chan fan should check that one out, it was one of the first movies to mix martial arts with comedy and was no doubt a big inspiration for the likes of Jackie and the opening scene is class). Im a big fan of those classic Shaw brothers films from the 70's and 80's. Out of the more modern ones Iron monkey(1993) is by far the best imo Absolutely brilliant fight scenes and a good story which is more than can be said for most ma movies.

not many mentions of any bruce lee films...is it the case that people sont think he's a great martial artist, or just that his films weren't great?

wouldn't it be cool to see a big 5 way fight to the death involving bruce lee(yes i know he's dead already - but not according to that guy in the office), jackie chan, jet li, donnie yen, tony jaa or some sort of tournament-type like enter the dragon? that would be deadly (no pun intended) imo, except for the fact that alot of them would die...

Bruce lee is without doubt one of the greatest martial artists ever and I liked all his films. Although it must be said his films are completely forgettable aside from the man himself. It must also be remembered we were only seeing the beginning from Bruce and there was certainly more to come. The footage from Game of death looks amazing and Im sure it would have been his best film yet.

Recently, it has to be Ong Bak. Prior to that crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
