Addictiveness?

The recent thread about addictiveness to Boards got me seriously wondering about this. Is it possible, do you think, to have an addictive personality?

I'm quite honestly addicted to boards, and that said, at this stage it's just become the norm for me rather then a recognised addiction. Which I suppose is a good thing, its ineracting with other people and discussing a wide range of topics, so its obviously a somewhat healthy addiction.

But I'm really addicted to everything. A most common one I'm sure, but I'm addicted to shopping, buying things, I just feel like I've wasted a day if I don't go and buy something.

I never stop texting, I'm addicted to mobile phones and texting, constantly buying new phones and I send 100-150 hundred texts a day. Sometimes more, although sometimes less.

I find myself now addicted to Battlefield 2, it's like the amount of time I sleep per day is slowly dwindling as I divide time between browsing boards and playing Battlefield. Before Battlefield, it was another game, and before that, it was Unreal Tournament, and so bad was the addiction I used to get up at 5am to catch the good US servers at their peak. I get about 5 hours sleep max a night.

There are numerous other things I just cannot think of right now that I find myself addicted to and feel bored and depressed without doing them, regardless of the situation.

Is there a personality that dictates someone is just plain out and out an addictive person? The worst thing is most of the things I'm addicted to are those that I don't even realise I'm addicted to until someone says....whoah, get a grip on it. :o

Definitely. You have people with strong willpower, and those with barely any. It's all to do with dopamine and the reward centre of the brain I'd guess. But there are certainly people who are, either psychologically or physically, more prone to addiction. And it's genetic, the same way that traits such as depression, OCD and aggression run in families - all to do with the neurotransmitters.

But the first step is admitting it!

ya people can have totally addictive personalities.

I dont have an addictive personalility per se but there are times when i get something into my head and it will keep nagging at me till i do it.

I suppose you could say you had an addictive personality if this happened all the time with loads of things.

How the hell can you afford to send 100+++ sms messages per day. Thats about the same amount of money i spend on phones/sms every 2 weeks or more.
