Hibernian Renewal Quotes

I got my Hibernian renewal quote lately, and I have to say I was less than impressed. Even with the ignition, my quote was €400 more than FBD and AXA (through a broker). Just wondering if any other Hibernian customers were surprised with their renewals???

    Car: 05 Audi A3 Ambition
    Engine: 1.6
Me: 25, male, full licence, no claims, 2 years ncb

Last year...... originally €1730 for an '02 A3 1.6, changed in June and paid an extra €30 for the remaining 4 months

    Hibernian: €1650
    AXA: €1260
    FBD: €1230

All fully comprehensive. It certainly surprised me.

I shop around every year, and every year Hibernian consistantly quote me approx 200% of the best quote I get.

YOu have to ring everyone. Also find out the differences between policies. The lower quotes you got may not have extras such as lower excess, windscreen cover, etc.

Yeah I got my quote two weeks ago and it had gone up from €1,000 to €1,117  No claims, no reasons, I rang them and asked was that their best quote and they said yes.

The I rang One Direct (underwritten by Hibernian) and they quoted me €642. Almost have the cost for the same cover!!! No idea what HB are at, I reckon they just didn't want me as a customer

    Specifics:

    Car: 00 Honda Civic VTi
    Engine: 1.6
Me: 29, 5 NCB (7 claim free), Full License 11 years + Advanced

    HB: 1,117
    AXA: 830
    One Direct: 642

    Go figure...

Just renewed with Hibernian, although not without a bit of story. Got the renewal quote in the post a month ago - just over 1000 and only E30 less than I paid last year, so wasn't too impressed. Rang Hibernian back and told them I was disappointed etc and they said that I had all the discounts I could get, yada yada, it was the best they could do. Anyway, rang everybody else and got a couple of better quotes - FBD being the best at 900.
Set these aside and waited three weeks. So I was going to go with FBD, but decided to ring Hibernian back and ask them what their best quote was. Without prompting to the competing quote I had, they immediately offered me a quote that was nearly E200 less than the price they'd sent out in the post three weeks earlier and previously confirmed as the best they could do. Confused, but happy, I signed up for another year. Moral: ring around, but do it again just before the renewal date to re-check?
(Male, 28, Full license, 1.4 99D, Dublin, just started 2nd year of own insurance)

What I usually do with Hibernian is throw the renewal letter in the bin, then go back to their website, and key in all my details, saying that the previous insurer was them.... then get the quote which works out a lot better than the renewal letter. Don't know why their renewals are so bad, but it might have something to do with people's laziness - the amount of people that would get the letter and either think "This is obviously the best I'm going to get", or else they're just to lazy to shop around....

My policy was up at the end of august, so got my quote and it was pretty similar to the previous years, about 100euro cheaper. I had moved on from a 1.4 Astra to a (jap)1.6 Levin, so I thought i was doin ok, then saw that they hadn't included the extra discount for disclosure of penalty points, i had none. I rang them and got another 100euro off my quote. Then asked them for Fully Comp and only charged an extra 90euro.
    All in all:

    22yr old Male
    5yr Full/Clean Licence
    2yr NCB
1.6L Toyota Corolla Levin (Jap import)
    Total: approx 800euro, 87euro monthly

I am in the process of doing just that. Incidentally the quotes all had similar extras although the axa one also had no claims protection.

try brittoninsurance.com and www.jlt.ie ....they totally blew hibernian out of the water when it came to renewal time for me this year

Has anyone got HB to come down after telling them you've been offered a better quote though?

I recently bought a new Golf GTI. My previous car was also a 2.0 although not 200bhp and they wanted 37 quid on top of the 2,300 I have given them already. Now I'm only 23 but I have a full licence 4 years and a 4 years NCB - 5 in Feb. Britton quoted me 300 quid less for a full year on a GTI but seeing as I was well into the year with HB there was no point changing - I said this to HB and they didn't care.

For me to have to pay over 2k this coming Feb with 5 years NCB on a GTI seems madness and I won't be doing it so if that means changing company then I will.

I understand your frustration but at 23 with 4 years NCB driving a 200bhp Golf GTi while in the great plan of things €2,300 is expensive. But considering that some poor souls on here are paying €3k to insure 10 year old Micras, etc then it is not the worst.

As I said it is not a brilliant price to be paying those vultures but by Irish insurance standards it is not the worst either.

When I was 23 I would have been laughed at by insurance companies if I wanted to insure anything close to a GTi.

Hibernian are not probably interested because they have your money for this year but at the end of this term you can take your business else where and rightly do so.
