    Hi all,

Friend is buying a new Seat Ibiza 1.2 12valve. Smaller engine suits her better. New price E16,150 incl metallic.
Trading in her '00 Nissan Almera 1.5 (30,000 on the clock, she's been the owner form new, FSH), and would need to put Euro10K to buy the Seat. So being offered E6,150 for the Almera.

Now, she asked about just buying the car for cash, as I may buy the almera off her. Best deal was Euro15,600 for cash - do you think she could do better than that?

I would think she could do better than that as a cash buyer. Since she would have no trade in she should ring all Seat garages around the country and ask them each how much for cash. You will probably find you'll get you best offer somewhere down the in the middle of Sligo or Clare or something like that. My brother done this a few years ago and there was a difference of €1,500 between two dealers!

I would have thought so too, perhaps Euro1K off anyway, but the salesman was giving the blurb about small margins on such a cheap car etc...
I thought he might have given her a better trade-in anyway, but she's going to check out the Dublin Seat dealers (this dealer was in Wexford).

I did the rounds of the dealers a few years ago with the same car and the best discount for cash I got was €900. I also got a good few quid off some of the extras I ordered with it. 90% of the dealers all quoted the exact cash discount of €650.

I would definately shop around. Very few people are buying brand new cars at the end of September so dealers should be a bit more eager for a sale.

I think also that dealer may think he has a soft touch in that most women wouldn't have a clue about cars or how to haggle down the price of one. It might be interesting to see what kind of discount you would get on the same car from the same dealer.

He was lying. I got €2k off a €19k Skoda Octavia. Now that is a fairly low margin car. The Ibiza @ €16k is not
