    Hi,
a question on an oil heating system.
outside of the physical differences - what are the differences /benfits or adv/disadv of a pressurized/closed system compared to an open system

why would an open system be changed to a closed one.

is it possible that a heating pump (beside the boiler) is not powerful enough to push hot water to the furthest rads ? and would closing the system helps this.

    thx

    Hi Karl,

There are different pumps for heating systems, while they can look the same the power can vary a fair bit.

It is possible to change to a pressurised system and gain the heat to the furthest part of the house because there are times when the hot water takes the shortest route which can be to the overflow on the header tank.

The pressurised system allows for more control on a well balanced system, they also tend to require less maintenance suich as bleeding the air and refilling the system.

One reason would be the conversion of an attic to living space.
With an open system a radiator might be above the header tank and therefore would not fill. A sealed system would solve this.

is it difficult in changing an open to a closed system ??

have moved rads/boilers etc so don't mind plumbing !! :)

With 6 rads now and possibly 3 more next year added (extension) what capacity exp tank is needed and where is this added in.

How are these systems filled ? - from mains supply at the drain plug ??

    thx
