Lasik aftercare in Dublin?

    Hi all,

I had Lasik eye surgery on Friday in the UK (company called Optimax, clinic was in London), which went very well. It was recommended to me that I have a few aftercare checkups in the first few weeks, just to make sure my eyes continue to recover properly; they have a few affiliated opticians in Ireland, but none in Dublin.

Does anyone know of any opticians in the Dublin city area that can provide a Lasik aftercare checkup? I'm going to give some of the Dublin Lasik clinics a call tomorrow to enquire, but if anyone knows of anywhere, or has any recommendations or whatever, I'd appreciate it ;)

    John

Why did you have it done in the UK? I presume to save money? Can you still claim the foreign expense against your Irish PAYE marginal rate of tax?

I had my Lasik here in Dublin nearly 4 years ago. They might provide you with the aftercare you need

Very professional crew and I was extremely lucky with my result. 10/10

Oh and anyone wonder why Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley are pretty good golfers? :D

They went to the same place I did. I was very lucky with my result back then. Nowadays, even people with 20/20 vision can get an improvement. The 6 million dollar bionic man anyone?

the amount of doctors that preform this surgury and wear glasses never ceases to worry me... half the pictures on that site show the docs in specs..... do they know something we don't?

hmm.. slightly off topic i know, but perhaps worth a mention

As in? What was your result?

I was very fortunate back then to get 20/12 vision. Iirc this means that I can see the same detail from 20 meters that someone with 20/20 vision can see from 12 meters distance

I was pure lucky. Nowadays the expected result is in that region

Do you mind me asking when you had it done, what was your situation previously and what was the price tag (before tax refund)?

Mine were early 2002, -2.25 (both eyes), €4200 gross so after tax about €2500

Nah, not even that - it cost £1700 sterling to get both eyes done. I chose to have it done by Optimax because two of my friends had their eyes done there, and were very satisfied with the service and the results. They had theirs done in the Croyden office, I had mine done in the Finchley Road office (London).

    Thanks for the link!

Just in case it's helpful to someone in the future, the Wellington Eye Clinic currently charge €80 for the first checkup, and €60 thereafter. They only open Monday to Friday.

But if you have the Lasik treatment over there, all checkups are free :)

Well yes; if I were to fly back to the UK to get my checkups with Optimax, they'd be free - but with the fares and the hassle and stuff, it wouln't be any more worthwhile ;)
