A poor call and an Amazing fold

I was playing tonight in the Fitz, PLH 1-2 cash game. I had 300 Euro in front of me after about an hour, after buying in for 200. I then get dealt 22 UTG, i doubled the BB to 4 Euro. I did this just incase I flop trips there will be an okay pot to bet into. I get about six callers. The flop comes A23, with two clubs. I bet the pot and get called by one player. The turn is a red K. Perfect I thought.....i bet the pot again and get raised all in, it is going to cost me another 220, all my chips to call. I am thinking possible flush draw, possible AK and very possible 45......I dont know what it is in my bones but i cant release trips, just cant and I want to hear from people who can.....I call and Player shows 45 and the board doesnt pair.......poor call???? In hindsight yes but i just couldnt release the set of 2's. Opinions much appreciated.

Now i buy back in for another 200 and get my stack back to about 500 Euro after about three or four hours. I get 10J and call the blind, there is a preflop raise behing me for 12 and i call. The flop comes AKQ all diamonds....i have the 10 diamonds. Preflop raiser bets the pot about 30 Euro. I dont figure he has the diamonds as I have the 10d and that would mean his preflop raise would at best have had to been the J9 diamonds. And from what I had saw this player was very solid, so a raise with two small diamonds prefop was a no. I knew i was infront with the nut straight. I check the turn which is a black 2 and player comes out with a 75 Euro bet. I am thinking two pair possible set and I raise the max to 300 Euro. The player thinks for a good two minutes and at this stage i know i am in front....he thinks and thinks and thinks and then folds showing pocket aces. He folded trip Aces, his comment as he folds is 'i respect your raise and i think im beaten'. I couldnt beleive it....amazing fold in my opinion, brilliant. I wouldnt have been able to release trip Aces here, not for a second. The dealer shows the river card and it would have brought know help. So opinions on this fold.....easy??? or class??

Ended up finishing at 7.30 am with a profit of 450 euro which was okay.

Well when there was a straight and a flush on from the flop, and on the turn you make max bet, there's a good chance you could have one or the other, and it's a big call to make. Although in fairness it does take some discipline to put down trip aces! You just scared him out of the pot though I reckon, there was to much on and a max bet, I would have called his €75 on the turn, and then see what he does on the river.

your hand strength has no absoute value (unless its the nuts or you are playing the board). Its strength is determined in relation to your oponenents. ie you dont get rewarded for having a strong hand. So when deciding to call or fold, a poor player thinks: well I have a straight so I cant fold, but a good player will think about what he believes his opponent to have and make the correct laydown, or call as the case may be.

In the first hand you mentioned, if you thought he had 45 then you should of folded. You didnt have the odds to call and boat up so you lose money everytime you make that call. If he had of raised you on the flop it would be a different matter.

Also you deserved it for min raising preflop.

Yeah Hector youre point about your hand haiving no value in itself is good. Never quite thought about it like that...although when you say 'you deserve it for raising minimum'...thats nonsense.

I raised to 4 UTG the max raise is 6, everyone that called for 4 would have called for 6 especially the BB who is a professional from Northern Ireland, and has a bottomless pit for a pocket.

They dont call it No Fold'em Hold'em for nothing.

I can think of at least 3 seperate reasons why its better to limp 22 utg rather than min raise it, and none of them include having 45 call you.
