seems also the Peagasus drafted any survivors it found. Am surprised that the only person the Galactica got working on it from the civilian population in Baltar.

He wasn't. They recruited a group of new Viper pilots from the civilian population in Act Of Contrition. (It was also a nifty way for Adama to get his real life son a part in the show. Oh well, I like Hotdog (Bodie Olmos) so I don't mind. :D )

The one thing i wanted asked was how they were not disabled by the cylons. Ye may have a point about them not being infected as they were only about to go for an overhaul.
By reverting to the previous software, the Galactica's vipers became Cylon proof. So presumably the Pegasus hadn't already been kitted out with Baltar and Six's new software and the upgrade would have taken place during the overhaul,

If the XO shoots Cain in the head then problem solved. Loads more pilots and ships to have big skirmishes with the cylons.

Could the 6 on the pegasus be Baltars 6 after she left during the attack on caprica.

It's a possibility, but I don't think it is. We know 'There are many copies', and we've seen some on raganok armery, caprica and one snuck on board in 'six degrees of seperation'.

I'd been looking forward to this one for ages, as the Pegasus episode was one of my favourites from the original series. Most of the plot elements have been preserved, apart from the inevitable switching of Kane from a male to a female and her elevation to Admiral - I'm sure Kane was just a Commander in the original. No matter, Michelle Forbes is a lot easier on the eye than Lloyd Bridges.

Interesting to contrast the attitude of the Pegasus crew where there was just military and no one else to that of the Galactica crew who have been softened? humanised? depending on your viewpoint by their constant interaction with civilians.

I was puzzled by the speed of Adama's attitude change but I guess the missing quarter hour explains it.

And the good news is that Sky are showing the other two Pegasus episodes as a double episode on Tuesday night. :)

No, Baltar's 6 was killed in the explosion and we see her appearing again in a new body in ep18, "downloaded".

Great episode.. Michelle Forbes hasn't done too bad - from Ensign to Admiral in under 10 years :) Seriously though, thought she was very good in the role.

Nice nod to the original series in the design of the Pegasus as someone else commented, and the cooler, more modern and utilitarian design of her CIC is a good contrast to Galactica.

Roll on part 2 I say. My prediction is that the Pegasus XO will step in and relieve Cain before things get too out of hand (you can see he's not too happy with Cain's order to launch fighters), take command and go off to take on the Cylons in order to give Galactica and the fleet time to escape, thereby preserving the more-or-less same storyline as the original series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, and must admit to not even noticing the music. The contrast in attitudes between the two battlestars set a great tone for the episode.

I agree that Cain being a cylon would be too simplistic, instead I believe that her harshness and coldness is her way of dealing with the way things are.

I'll be in my seat next Tuesday for part 2, and thanks for the link to those podcasts.

Guess again. They've shown more than enough willingness to give 2 fingers to the original storyline in the past

Apart from the music at the start of the episode this one was a cracker. Loved it, loved it, loved it. And thank you Sky for showing a double episdode this week - that is so cool!
Acting, pacing, storyline - all superb. Adama and Baltar were on top of their game.
The design of the Pegasus was great as well. Really looks more powerful than Galactica.
One thing got me though. I wonder with Apollo and Starbuck having been sent over to the Pegasus and the Pegasus's own CAG still on Pegasus, who was the Galactica's CAG? Was that mentioned anywhere in the episode?

If I remember correctly (ages since I've seen this!) Apollo and Starbuck were put on the Pegasus because Cain knew they were dangerous from reading the logs and did not want someone like them as CAG of Galactica, she knew it would cause her problems. I think therefore Galactica was left without a CAG

In the final scene, Kat is doing the job of the CAG, coordinating the squadron and communicating with Galactica. Obviously she wouldn't be the most senior pilot, I'd say the writers decided to go with another pilot who the audience would recognise, and who better than one of the nuggets? That means it was either Kat or Hotdog (2 other nuggets were named when Starbuck was training them, but they've both been killed), and Cat's got more screentime so far, so Kat it was

i have never seen the originial battlestar but i absolutely love the new version. it is by far the best on tv right now, right up there with 24 and OVer There. Both Stargates are very disappointing this series...

Currently making my way through the season 2 DVD. Has anyone watched the extended version of this episode yet? The episode is now a whopping 56 minutes, and is definitely better paced than the original :)

Some intriguing scenes are included now, for example ....
    • A pre-credits sequence in which Starbuck outlines a plan to return to Caprica and rescue the resistance fighters last seen in the episode "The Farm", which is rejected by Adama and Roslin. This sequence, although cut from the original episode, was used in flashbacks and 'story so far' sequences in later episodes.
    • A discussion between Adama and Roslin which details Cain's biography, namely that she is very young for her rank and achieved it through a combination of skill and good connections. This scene also includes some shots of the Galactica crew's excitement over finding Pegasus.
    • A conversation between Cain and Adama which reveals technical information on the Pegasus, including the fact that it is a Mercury-class Battlestar and is approximately twice the size of the Galactica with only half the crew, due to greater automation technology.
    • Additional material featuring the Pegasus deck chief, including the fact that he is being transferred to Galactica to replace Tyrol.

It was weird starting with the new pre-credits scene - thought i was watching a never-before-aired episode :p

Also, "good connections" would explain why Cain became a Rear Admiral at such a young age.

Nice one, I always thought that could have done with an explantion. Unfortunitly, I've got a DVD set (season 1+2 boxset) but I don't think the extended edition of Pegasus is on it :(. One of my favourite episodes, so I'm a bit annoyed about that, and the general lack of any extras on the discs altogether.

Hopefully they release a definitive collection once the series ends, and hopefully that's long enough away that I won't mind buying seasons 1+2 again so much.
