I have been working part-time in a petrol station since christmas '04. When i rang the manager today to tell her i was sick and that i wouldnt be able to make in for saturday and sunday she informed me that the station and shop would be completly closing down at the end of the weekend for renovation work.I asked how long it would be closed for and my reply was "how long is a piece of string".
What i am enquiring about is whether i am entitled to any compensation or anything else?
    Thanks for your help. :D

AFAIK you are only entitled to one weeks notice because you haven't been there that long. Your manager gave you your one weeks notice.
    I'd say no

Were you sacked or was your boss just being smart?
Either way I don't think your entitled to anything.
If you have been working there for the past 9 months part time why were you not told of renovation works going on. Or is it an excuse to cancel your employment?

I was told that if a person in full time employment for 1yr ro more is wrongfully fired then they have the right to claim unfair dismissal. Don't think this applies in your case.

When I worked in Statoil and they closed our place for re-building work, they had to re-locate people. I ended up working in the "Shop" that was left on the site. I say shop, I mean 40 foot container.

    That was interesting. :(
