This was only described to me second hand so I don't know the details but it's something like this:
Ray D'Arcy is asking people around Ireland to send in photographs taken on October 1st to be published in a book. Something like A Day in Ireland or something.
It's for amatuer photographers and even cameraphone pictures will be accepted.

Sounds interesting, does anyone have any more details on this?

yes it sounds interesting, no id say you have all the details there pretty much.. I'm not too gone on the idea of them accepting cameraphone pics... I would have thought that they'd produce some kind of high quality book and not have thousands of people sending in cameraphone pics of their cats and themselves out in the pub the previous night.

But then again, I'm a photosnob.

Some sort of link would be helpful maybe............?

Couldn't find anything on the TodayFM website about it. They're never the quickest to update things though.
It's a clever marketing trick really. Anyone who's photograph is in it is almost guaranteed to buy at least one copy.

    [edit]
I'm sure they won't publish too many crappy camera phone pictures. If they do they'll have to be fairly small anyway.

There is a book on this theme by Professional photographers - it's a week not a day though. they did a day in London before this and decided a week would be better for Ireland.

    This was in 1985 though

Anyone know how copyright on your photo works on these books?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,396 ✭✭✭✭Karoma

At a guess: 'all your photo are belong to them'
Or at least publishing rights - theirs. Intellectual property - yours. (i.e. They print and reproduce however pleases them and they give you a pat on the back for the trouble)
I'm sure full T&C will published..

Yeah ,Karoma is right. Same as designing a web page, u made the page and you can say it's your work, but it's their possession.

All profits are going to charity so don't begrudge them your work which probably wouldn't be published otherwise. Meteor are sponsoring the printing of the book. They said the plan was to have some pages with lots of smaller pictures from the camera phones and larger pictures from proper cameras. There was a book done like this before with pictures all from one day, I looked through it last month but it was published about ten years ago or so. Again it was for charity but I can't remember which one. Gay Byrne did the foreword.

almost makes me wish I'd set the date on my camera every day to oct 1st... I'd have such a wide variety of images to choose from. Instead I'll have to boot around like a hoore tomorrow taking hundreds of shots. Curse this honesty thing, curse it to hell.
