Optical Drive & SATA Detection Problems

I'm just after formating my hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP on my self-built PC; everything seemed to have gone smoothly at the time, but now I'm noticing some problems:

I have an 80GB IDE HDD and a 160GB SATA drive - only the IDE drive is being detected, within Windows and in the BIOS. I'm using a Gigabyte 8i915p Duo Pro motherboard.

My two optical drives (DVD ROM and RW) aren't being detected either - they're on a separate cable to the IDE hard drive and they bother worked during the Windows install, but now they're not beingdetected at all. I tried googling for some answers to my problem, came across this forum, followed the advice about deleting the registry entries - but I could only find the UpperFilters value, there was no LowerFilters value there at all. I deleted the UpperFilters value like it said... but it still didn't fix anything.

I'm getting a bit desperate, since I need to access the files on my SATA drive and burn some DVDs, so I appreciate any help you can give.
