Strand St bus interchange

According to todays Irish Times, CIE is looking for a property developer to build a new bus interchange facility at the Strand St/Abbey St site.

I'm curious as to how much Dublin Bus traffic would route through such an interchange and also about access. The site isn't exactly huge. As for access, Strand St is a bit narrow and leads to Capel St & Liffey St. Luas wouldn't much care for a constant stream of arriving and departing buses blocking Abbey St.

    Views anyone?

They were talking about this some time ago, hopefully it happens this time.
Anything that removes a few buses off the side streets is a good thing.

It's not huge but as SickCert says anything that takes buses off the side streets is a good thing.

Go to any city in the UK the size of Dublin and there will be one or more large bus stations for local routes as well as a coach station.

At least it's adjacent to a Luas stop. You could nearly call it integrated!

I was in London last week and I couldn't help noticing that the destination scrolls on most London buses suggested most routes serve at least one major public transport interchange (i.e the main rail/tube stations)

With Luas linking Heuston and Connolly (and hopefully Spencer Dock in the relatively near future), should Dublin Bus be considering a similar approach? Rather than sending all their city centre bound buses towards An Lar, they should be directed towards the main rail stations, allowing passengers to get to their destinations by changing mode to/from the bus/train/tram?
